its really a rant that i need to get off my chest.... well a moan really...
why is it that you feel sometimes you are on a high business and family live doing great guns.. and a new business is taking off and then things go pear shaped...
first of all my old old computer that i took to my business premises decided to go to go awal on me.....so decided to buy a new one which cost the business £400, so this took the business into overdraft, which when i get my monthly payments will bring me back into the black.. but it has taken most of my safty buffer away..... but hay.... things happen i thought..
then a few days later my washing machine decided to follow suit:mad:
so had to wash the kids school uniform by hand, and the engineer will come out on thursday between 12pm and 6pm.... i did tell the lady on the phone that someone could not be there before 2.30pm... so could she put a note on the engineer's work sheet.. nope... they would not do that.... so know in my luck he will turn up during that time..
and to top it all....one of my main accounts that i have had had a better offer else where:eek:  .. which in honesty i can match but will not make anything.......
also when i moved into the business unit which is run by the local authority to set up the business and expand it..... a company which does exactly the same thing as me moved in 2 units away ...i got a funny feeling it was them that took my main account.......
they say bad things come in 3's i really hope so......
i am debating now whether to offer the same amount and make no money.....but it bulks up my volume, and also being connected to this company is very good for my new company image........
what my problem is even now after everything that i have ben through in various businesses.... i do take things personally....( i know i should take a bit of my own advice lol)
well i have had a sleepless night about it.. thinking now that my business is now doomed.......
but in the words of one of my hubby's bands songs.. 'its a brand new morning coming up with the sunrise'
and yep i did see the sunrise this morning
do you lot ever get the business blues......? or is it just me ?
thanks for reading/listening.... it does help just to get it out of yuor system..

Hi
I know just how you feel. When you least need it things happen that you really don't need.
I've got a small toy shop and I can't compete with the big stores so I steer clear of anything they sell (but we sell quality and quirky, listen to what people say they want and keep our prices as low as possible), but what occasionally gets to me is that people come in and spout off about shopping with the small stores, buying less and better quality and shopping local and then you see them walking past later with a carrier bag full of toys from the big chains.
Ah well I never expected to get rich:rotfl:

thanks andyboy190.....ye i know... after having a moan and groan..... feeling totally naf..... when i went to the unit today i put my best foot forward.... and hayho off to work we go...lol.....
its just sometimes... things go well and then all of a sudden a few naf things happen and knocks you off balance so to speak.....and then you are out of sorts for a bit.....
just wondering if other business owners get the 'business blues' as well from time to time.....
thought we could use this post as a release valve.. just to have a moan...
i know......a depressing thought....lol...... but after i posted this thread.. and had a nice cuppa... i must admit i did feel better....Work to live= not live to work0 -
business blues HA!
Sometimes I think I am Bi Polar the mood swings I have - and thats after 5 years of trading
Someone once pointed out that your mode can be directly correlated to the balance of the business bank account.....How true!0 -
Hey cooltrikerchick, I've seen the advice you've put on this board in the past and it has been spot on! Of all the people I see post here I can see that you have the ability to think round the problem and work out the solution. You're just too close to it at the moment and need to clear your head.
I gave up employment 4 years ago to set up my own business. Gave up the car, the security, the private healthcare. Shortly after started developing a tumour which was removed as suspected cancer the following year. Screwed my business plan up no end I can tell you and I'm still down financially as a result. But if you've got the bottle and the attitude - and I really believe that you do - then you WILL come out the other side. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? thanks vivatifosi i was having a business blue moment... and was thinking.. that history was going to repeat itself again..... with the hard struggles on previous businesses......and things going pear shaped.....
i think because it has happened in the past and i/ we shrugged it off or just didnt see the signs.... now if there is any blip in business i get a heavy sinking feeling that its doomed...lol....
but after having a moan to you guys.....i did feel a lot better..
and to top it all.. i paid upfront £258. for an advert in the local newspaper.... they were running a 'green recycling' feature.... i paid them over 5 weeks ago for this.. which was suposed to run on monday gone... but they moved it to saturday..... i had a phone call yesturday to say that the feature was now being cancelled due to lack of uptake...
even though i had sent promotional letters etc to my potential targettted supplier base... i thought this big advert would launch the business to the general public...
the cs girl then said it would take 14 days for me to recieve my refund:mad:
so thats 7 weeks worth of money out of my account for nothing..
they did say that they would put the advert into the mainstream paper...... but i thought sod it..... its not going to get the same attention....as if it was in the recycling feature....
so thats thrown that theory out that bad things come in 3's:rotfl:
edit.....i'm not normally a moaning minnie....... honest...lol......Work to live= not live to work0 -
I am self-employed and find that my work situation is always 'feast or famine' - i.e. I either have so much work coming in at once that I have to turn some away, or I have nothing for weeks on end and start thinking that I will never get another contract ever....
I so know what you mean about the business blues, especially at this time of the year when the nights are getting longer and the daylight hours shorter....
The main account you mention with the better offer elsewhere - if you can match this offer but then make no money, can you instead try almost matching this offer (so you do make a bit of profit) but sell it to them on the basis of "you know we will deliver, you can trust us, we have supplied your needs in the past" etc. They may be prepared to pay the bit extra just for the security of a known supplier.
Or they could just be trying it on as a negotiating tool of course, in which case they will probably agree to your 'almost matching offer' anyway!
Either way, might be worth a try?

sorry i havent answered your post quicker..... but was unable to access the site for a few days.....
what i have done is sais i would match their offer..... but still pay on pick up.. rather than pay them on a monthly account like most of my competitors do.....
the price that they are now recieving ..is correct... and is at the top end of the payment scale..... which i get when i re-sell... one......
i know what i am saying might sound a bit confusing.... so unless i totally say what i do.. then it will be....lol.....
there is no such thing as loyalty.... its basically the highest quote will get the job...items etc......
but my business has only been going just over 5 months ......and i think having such a big company..to do business with so early on... is like giving a pack of sweets to a kid... let them eat one, and then pass them on to someone else.... to eat in front of you:mad: ..if that makes sense....
so all i can do now is sit and wait, and see if they do phone in the next few weeks.....
i nkow what you mean about the famine and the feast.....all or bloody nothing....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Hi Cool,
Read your thread with interest and am glad to see it is not just me who has these feelings! Ws beginning to feel as though was going mad
Work VERY hard at my business but at times never feel like it is worth it.....Our Toddler is frequantly ill so wife gave up her well paid job to be able to look after her when needed, this meant a great deal harder work for myself to attempt to cover her loss of earnings - this sadly no matter what we do never seems to come off and we constantly find ourselves back at square one unable to move forward
Guess it is just going to be a case of carry on working till midnight everyday and back up at 6.00am to try and drive sales
Regards
Pete0
