Alternatives to Pay TV

We pay for Netflix and Now TV, between the two we manage to get all the shows that we want.0

BBC is not free
Nor is ITV, CH 4 Ch5, only difference is that, even without a TV or licence, you are paying for ITV, go figure...At times any combination of my spelling, grammar or punctuation may be incorrect. Please do not pick me up for this as, after all, it is only an internet forum.0 -

Sky is launching a new service. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/jan/25/sky-to-unveil-plug-in-stick-and-download-service
Also the problem with services like Sky is you have to get a lot of expensive stuff which costs a fortune to fix or replace. We are having problems with Q all the time. It is not worth the cost.
Also I know I am now going off topic but you get better quality customer service from services like Netflix and Now TV than you do from Sky. Not sure about Virgin Media.
Waiting for a replacement card for our Q from Sky. You have to contact them more than once. Simpler to just use online services.0 -
I have a setup that includes Freesat in some rooms and Freeview in others. This gives me 100s of channels "for free" (TV licence "free"!). I can hardly keep up with the content I have.
A while back when LoveFilm was killed off (annual fee ca. £85 per year) I decided to look for a movie source and came across Amazon Prime. As I do much of my shopping via Amazon, I figured the £79 per year fee was a reasonable investment as it included free 24-hour delivery. I was a bit disappointed in the movie choice, but have watched several enjoyable series (Ray Donovan, Looming Tower, Man in the High Castle, Goliath, Hap and Leonard). So far, there's enough choice that I can get my Friday and Saturday night fix.
I have friends who pay over £100 per month to have all the choices, include sport, from Sky, but end up watching TV every waking hour. They seem to be paying a fortune for the whole buffet and then despite gorging all day, still have no chance of watching all the available content.
I think decent sport is something I'd pay for but as above, it seems you have to pay everything just to get the small amount of content you want. I'd be happy with a pure pay per view service, and pay £1 or £2 for a rugby match or Spring Classic (cycling). I can't see that sort of service being available for a long time. Sky seem to have a stranglehold.(Nearly) dunroving0 -

Good news! This pay per sporting event is coming to Amazon, so e like tennis is already on there. I agree, Amazon Prime is amazing value. I'm listening to amazon music as I type this via the Echo. Superb!0 -
Sky are awful. Staff don't understand what is going on. Amazon is better and cheaper.0
