An increase in property value may go some way to counter some of the loss if intrest on capital the outlay of any green energy intallations as long as it was well done I would have thought or at least make the property easier to sell??.

    Hi Bazza!
Just came across your Thread and wonder if I may make a suggestion?

Why not consider fitting a Thermoflow to your LPG tank/tanks? A Thermoflow would dramatically reduce your yearly expenditure on LPG and only cost £55 each so payback time would be minimal. The products easily fitted, no pipes to cut, no power required and have a 100% money back guarantee based entirely on your satisfaction.

Contact me if you want further details.

In one post you have combined spam and scam!

More blasted magnets. Proven countless times they simply do not work.

You work for Ecoflow who market this rubbish.

You can only get away with advertising on the Internet as the Advertising Standards Authority(ASA) would hammer you otherwise.

The Energy saving Trust conducted a review of your your fuel saving device.
The ASA does not regulate Internet advertising, so this test data is still widely used by the sellers of magnetic devices ("tested by the DTI!"), but the authoritative remarks above should demonstrate the need for caution in accepting these claims.
Ecoflow also said that their magnetic device was "the subject of a continuing product specific trial funded by an independent charity" but "the results would not be available for some time". This was said over two years ago - readers may draw their own conclusions as to the results of this trial, from the fact that they have apparently not been published.

I see you are using this site to promote your business in another thread.

  • Thanks ET, I know I am on here asking what to some may be stupid questions, but I am not an idiot. If you really could cut fuel costs by fitting (or not actually fitting) some £55 gizmo, don't you think the whole world would know about it?
I remember some similar piece of unproven bodgery doing the rounds a few years ago, it was a thing you dropped in your fuel tank on your car and was supposed to save you ££££££s.
I wasn't sucked in then and I'm not going to be now.

    bazzapurple,

This is the kit my sister has used (through a distributor in Ireland - Powertech.

From the Alpha-Innotec link above, it seems they can produce water at 65 degrees from their GSHP. That might not be hot enough for you rads but it would do for your DHW.

  • Thanks Almacmil,
Interesting links, but I don't quite understand how it works. I can see the geothermal as underground it is warmer than ambient on cold days, but the air/water heating thing baffles me.
I am not really looking for lots of hot water anyway, we just have electric showers as it seems wasteful to heat so much water for baths all the time.
Do you have a rough idea how much her system was and what type? Any idea what kind of savings she has made?
    Cheers,
    Bazza
  • Cardew, cheers for the ideas.
I am getting TRVs fitted to those rads that don't already have, which is about half. Insulation wise, there is a few spots where rockwool can be stuffed, but not to huge effect, and a couple of windows to be double glazed, but as the house is listed, some things are a no no, so expensive wooden double glazing will be required. The dry lining is a good idea, and I'll consider that as bit by bit the decoration is redone.
I could go for a more efficient boiler, but that seals the fate as far as relying on LPG, which I am not that keen on using. It's one thing to pay a bill for mains gas, but seeing the huge tanks outside that empty alarmingly fast, brings it home how much is physically being used. There is no mains gas here.
Or, I could go for an electric boiler, which I've read is more efficient, but due to electricity prices could be expensive to run. Economy 7 and storage heaters??? Would be a job to rip out the rads and replace them all, but it is an option. Need someone good at sums to go through it all with me.
    Anyway, thanks again.

Even 'normal' Double Glazing is never cost effective; let alone 'special' DG for a listed building.

It is possibly worth installing normal DG if you have to replace the window frame anyway, but otherwise don't bother. Despite what the DG salesmen say the savings in fuel will never repay the costs.

I can't really help you much here I'm afraid.

It's a big house, farmshed/stable block, all heated (racehorses involved!) and was new build, so savings aren't relevant. GSHP was the only option given the location. I know they put 8 loops in the ground (mine has two for 2000 sq ft). I think (from memory) they have three (poss two) of the pumps you see in the pictures on the site.

As for the technology, it's really the same as fridges/aircon units and they use air-based energy. One side of the pump/compressor is cold, the other is warm - you can use either the heat or the cold depending on your requirement.

My pump, during the winter, was taking water/antifreeze in at 0 degrees, sucking energy out and sending it back to the ground loops at -6 degrees. The ground was then re-heating it to 0 degrees!
