Help and advice Virgin Media wifi issue and router

I have some really good news. I bought the Devolo 1200 and its seems to have solved the issue.
I was abroad when they installed it, so I have no idea why they installed it in the kitchen. Most likely it was easy for them as the kitchen is at the front of the house.
Thank you to everyone for your input. I just saw the Devolo by accident as I was browsing at Maplin. It was a spot of luck.0 -
Glad you got sorted.
Out of interest what speed do you have from VM as their maybe a couple of settings to change on the WAP to get the best speeds.0 -
My VM SHub 3 gives me very usable WiFi throughout the house with a variety of devices connecting (12) across 2 and 5Ghz. So it's not an inherent problem with the VM router.0

Hi Guys,
I need some help and advice. If I say my worst broadband service has been with Virgin Media, I wouldn't be exaggerating. I have lived in my current house for more than 15 years, and in that time I have had broadband with various companies, and most recently with PlusNet. PlusNet wasn't great, but I didn't have to call them several times a week.
My wifi is terrible. It's not usable most of the time. I work in tech, although I am not a networking guy, so I am reasonably comfortable with technology. Even though the service is terrible in terms of wifi, virgin media won't release me from my contract.
After a lot of arguing and many calls, they sent me a replacement router, which was no better. Then they sent someone down to my house. The guy was honest enough to admit that the routers with virgin media were rubbish for wifi. I was shocked he was saying this given that he was a virgin media employee. Credit to him for being honest. He said there is nothing he could do to help me.
I work partly from home, so my wifi is essential. Half the time I can't browse web pages properly. We are not talking about watching videos or downloading music, just your normal browsing.
Now since virgin media won't release me from my contract, I have 2 options, either sign up with another broadband company, and also continue paying for virgin media or get a router of my own.
I am considering getting a router of my own. I want to invest in a router that also have 3G/4G capability. I want to know from other users who have had wifi issues if getting your own router solved the issue with virgin media wifi?
As far as I have been told, I do not know how true it is, but virgin media routers are supposed to be known for wifi issues.
Does anyone have a router make model recommendations? This is one I am considering: ASUS RT-AC3200 Tri-Band Wireless Gigabit Router (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00Y2NVH4O ) any good?
Any advice or recommendations would be highly appreciated.
By the way, I tried to post on virgin media forum about this, but they have paid forum employees pretending to be customers, who weren't very helpful.
Thank you.
I've been having terrible wifi problems with VM for near on a month now. I think I phoned them every day last week, plus today as well! I'm getting my son the TP-Link TL-PA4010KIT 600 Nano Power Line Adapter Starter Kit from Amazon so that he can use his xbox without aggro (so I hope)! https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01BECPIMC/?coliid=IPP5FHZ2LHCCB&colid=1SA3S7339ZHJ1&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it:j I hope my comment helps :T0 -

Just remember though Powerlines don't get anywhere near their advertised speed you usually get 1/10 of their speed possibly up to 1/5 if you are lucky. Not necessarily a problem in this case but if you are paying for 200 or more with VM you won't benefit from it.0 -
Some customers who use Virgin Media’s latest SuperHub 3.0 (ARRIS TG2492S/CE) broadband router have spotted that the new kit appears to suffer from an unusual problem when running in modem mode, which causes the related Ethernet port to stop working for a few seconds every 35 minutes or so.0

We've got one at work connected to a V6 box for testing purposes that has now decided that it isn't connected to anything at all (apparently permanently). Who actually makes them for Virgin?0 -
We have a super hub 2 which does t like working well on the 2 ghz channel which is inconvenient for the devices we have that only support WiFi on 2 ghz and even on iPhone se running iOS 11.4 which is supposed to support 2.4ghz does not work most of the time. I got fed up phoning them everyday for them just to reset the channels which only works for a short while. We have no problems when using these devices on our friends BT WiFi. As soon as I am able to cancel my bb I will. Evan talk talk will be better!0

I have a Virgin superhub router v2 and a fast cable connection and cannot get wifi in some parts of the house - those furthest from the router. So I was a bit nervous when I bought a smart tv earlier this year, and wanted it to work off wifi. However by standing the tv in the sitting room below the router (which is upstairs in our home office) it works fine.
My sister had endless problems with the wifi signal on her Plusnet router, which was on the ground floor, not reaching her pc in her home office two floors above it in the roof. After endless visits from various "experts" with no success, someone pointed out that maybe the wifi signal was not powerful enough. They replaced the standard issue router with a more powerful one and now it works fine.
I don't know if Virgin have a more powerful version? I have superhub v2 but my son has just upgraded to Virgin Hub v3 and he tells me his wifi works fine throughout his house. It is quite a compact house though, mine is older and more rambling.0 -
I thought they upgraded people who just asked for a v3 these days. If not just unplug the v2 and tell them it died and ask for a replacement......;)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
