Sleepy, I see where you are coming from, but actually, it does matter to me if someone is breaking the rules. The OP is probably a nice person, but they're doing the wrong thing. We all make mistakes, but we shouldn't encourage them in this by offering advice on how to get away with it.
When compers break the rules on other platforms, it affects the comping world negatively. Most comps are hosted for promotional purposes. If compers 'get around' this, it will probably lead to fewer comps being offered. It also doesn't help promote compers in a positive light. If we want to try to win a prize, we should do so being fair to the host. My final point is that if Facebook become aware of compers doing this, they will probably target us all, to try to prevent it from happening.

But surely that's the same as sharing a competition to your comping friends group. These promotors want you to take an interest in their brand/product and share their comps with your legitimate friends not people you have befriended just so that you can share competitions and not spam your real friends.0

LOL - I must be missing something, because I read that as saying what the OP is doing is wrong. Anyway, we might have to agree to disagree about this one
To me, one mistake is not the same as another. We all decide these 'rights and wrongs' for ourselves, but I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to break any rules. Hosts shouldn't be doing 'share on FB' comps in the first place. The fact that they are doesn't make it right for us to break a different rule. Regardless, I wouldn't want to offer advice that encourages either of these rule breaks.

To be fair, I never sided on whether I thought it was right or wrong, there just seemed to be a bit of hypocrisy in regards to rules and rule breaking, which I was trying to understand.0 -
Hi Sleepyj,
Where you say.... The fact that you break competition rules almost every day just screams hypocritical to me so forgive me for not understanding your logic on this
Am I right in thinking you mean by using a comp site to get answers? BH xtotal wins 2013 £5500 2014 £7500 2015 £23,900 2016 £10,650 2017 £13,040 2018 £10,620 2019 £10,115 2020 £3970.00

Kind of yeah, although that's probably not specified in the rules (In a similar way a facebook competition wouldn't implicitly imply that you must share to your real friends on your real timeline).
There are other examples though, entering wedding competitions / gay magazine competitions / radio competitions which state "Only for listeners of ...", completing a survey about your visit to a particular shop when in fact you have never visited.
You would need to specifically read the terms and conditions for every single competition you enter to ensure you're not breaking any rules, which is not really going to happen.0 -
Ah ok so my logic is this.
Forum and platform rules were what I was talking about, not comp t&cs.
I would expect compers to abide by forum/platform rules if they want to use them. So on FB, you do as FB wish or risk being banned, same on here. I see no issues with using sites for the job they are designed for, so using a comp site to find comps and answers is fine.
Comp t&c's are another issue and were being covered on the other thread mentioned, something about would you tell a white lie? Well no I don't. Details I give are true, no fake dob/name/wedding/listening etc. I don't read every t&c and do take a chance that I am not breaking most of them, but they usually are pretty much standard. I know ignorance is no defencebut if i really did get caught out that way then I wouldn't be moaning about it, just forfeit the prize and put it down to experience.
As for surveys.... loathe them.
This is just me and my logic. I think blulu summed up perfectly why it matters. I will help other compers anytime, but not ones who don't play nicely xtotal wins 2013 £5500 2014 £7500 2015 £23,900 2016 £10,650 2017 £13,040 2018 £10,620 2019 £10,115 2020 £3970.00

OK, if we're talking about forum / platform rules
"Personal Timelines and friend connections must not be used to administer promotions (ex: "share on your Timeline to enter" or "share on your friend's Timeline to get additional entries", and "tag your friends in this post to enter" are not permitted)."
So, I guess you'd also need to report all of those competitions asking you to do so, making this whole discussion irrelevant0 -
hehe yes! If any of them come asking for advice then I willtotal wins 2013 £5500 2014 £7500 2015 £23,900 2016 £10,650 2017 £13,040 2018 £10,620 2019 £10,115 2020 £3970.00
