WiFi cloning with devolo dLAN

Evening all,
Wondering if anyone here has used Devolo dLAN devices to try and extend their WiFi? My father in law has bought a set and since I "know about computers" it's fallen to me to get them working.
The instructions are very simple - plug one of the devices into a LAN port of your router, then plug one of others into a wall socket. Press a button on the device, press WPS button on the router and, in theory, job done.
Sadly, I can't get it to work. When I take the wireless device (the one not plugged into the router) to another room and use a WiFi analyser on my phone, I don't see any change in the strength of the signal from my normal WiFi SSID. I do, however, see a new SSID called 'devoloxxxx' with very strong signal. Such leads me to think the WiFi cloning bit of the process hasn't worked.
Have done it multiple times now, but with the same result.
Don't suppose anyone has any thoughts?
Cheers,
Al

I think you'll need to log in to the Devolo web interface and change the wireless setting so that they match those on your router.
You'll need the same SSID, password and security encoding (e.g. WPA2) for your devices to connect automatically to the strongest signal.
It helps if you choose different channels for each wireless access point, so they don't interfere with each other.0 -

Looks like I'm going to have to give that a go - didn't even realise they had a web interface. Don't suppose you know how I access it, do you? Guess I'll install the software that came on the CD with them, and see if that helps.
Edit - installed the 'cockpit' software that came with the kit - next to useless. Doesn't appear to allow me to configure anything.

Open the WiFi confi guration menu of the terminal device (desktop, laptop, tablet) and connect
to the !!!8222;devolo WiFi Repeater!!!8220; network
Open your web browser and type http://devolo.wifi into the address bar.
This launches the confi guration interface.

That manual's from a different product, but I'll certainly give it a go when I get home later...
Thanks,
