Buying a new, sealed mobile on ebay. Manufcturer's guarantee?
I have found a phone on ebay that I wish to buy. BUT the seller seems to be a private seller. I asked the vendor, " if this is a new item what guarantee is offered with it? Or are you reselling with a guarantee that is already partially used? Thanks"
The seller responded, "its brand new.
unused, so warranty starts after you open it and set it up"
Can't say that gives me any confidence, and it is under £100 so I wouldnt be covered by any credit card.benefits,
Is it "caveat emptor" or do I have any redress if it's doa, or packs up after a couple of months like the last one did.

You'd need to prove purchase from an original retailer, methinks. I don't think the manufacturer is likely to be sympathetic with buying from a buyer. Warranties commenc e on the day something is bought, used or not. Not sure the credit card part is relevant - it may not be covered for the normal protection.0

Manufacturer warranties are often only valid for first owner and when purchased from an authorised reseller. Original proof of purchase will likely also be required.0

Yes, good points, I will ask if he is an authorised reseller, but looks like the risk is entirely with me.0

Seller will have the IMEI so could be blocked at any time if they wish too.0

I think only Apple warranty works like that. Can't say that gives me any confidence, and it is under £100 so I wouldnt be covered by any credit card.benefits,

So not an iPhone, it's likely that you won't get any warranty without a receipt from an authorised retailer.====0
