Well I'm feeling hideously deflated this evening. The car was making a whirring noise while accelerating on my way home and then the battery light came on. All arrows point to the alternator which is about a £400 fix according the Kuga owners forum. It's just one thing after another at the moment. I could cry:(

1 step forward, 2 steps back. I have no means of paying for that before pay day (and it will need doing before pay day if it's the alternator) so my only option is to use my Barclaycard (cleared in Nov with balance transfer)

    Absolutely gutted

oh no, I had a Focus that the alternator went on. It just kept being dead, flat battery in the morning. Hope its not that.

I'm praying it's something simple although i know it wont be.
There is one other option. Our toddlers savings (£360). I feel awful even thinking about it

    Hi Brookside,

First of all  :rotfl: at the new diary name, well done. :T

Sorry to hear about the car, hope it's something cheaper than you think. I know how you feel with 1 step forward, 2 steps back. :( All you can do is keep going.

Do you think you could BT the new cc balance if you need to use it? I had to do a BT recently due to a £700 vet bill & us stupidly forgetting to re-insure the cat involved, who then died anyway. :( That doubled my balance overnight on that card, the only (small) bright side is that I paid with one cc & then BT'd it for 0% interest for a year.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £10,546, Car loan CC 0% BT £5200. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.

Hi Sashybo, it's not paying off the new balance that I'm worried about particularly, as I could pay it off over a couple of months and just pay the minimums on the other 0% cards. I just don't want to go backwards. it's gutting :(
Bloody car is a money pit just lately

I know what you mean, it just feels neverending sometimes but you'll get there in the end. :)

Went to the garage round the corner from work today for the to look at my car. As feared, it is the alternator but the price hes quoted is less than I'd though it would be and he's also going to fit the brake pads at the same time. Total cost £330. Think that's pretty decent considering i was expecting £400 for the alternator and £100 for the brake pads. It's booked in for monday morning so hes told me not to drive it this weekend and if it doesn't start on monday morning he'll come and fetch it so that's great.

I've decided that rather than adding to my debt, i'll use some of little man's savings. he;s not going to need it for a good few years yet so plenty of time to replace it.

Going to make myself bolognese for tea out the freezer tonight

Sounds reasonable to me, including using the savings. When we were really stuck I used the boys so they got Christmas presents that year :o

Have you seen this offer for a years free life assurance?

    Busy day today

Mowed the lawn this morning, dried 2 wash loads on the line which makes a change! Cleaned the bathroom, and changed the beds. It's just started raining so the third wash will have to go in the tumble dryer.

Surveys have been slow today but I'm up to £10.87 on prolific and £2.57 on qmee.

Pasta bake for tea tonight. Cheap as chips!

It's supposed to thunder this evening, hope it does, the air needs clearing
