I just checked that link and I filled in for the new JSA with no bother, putting in a post code that is a UC area

That's interesting. I'm definitely in a UC area. Click on the "new claim for JSA online" link. That takes me to a new page "apply for job seekers allowance" this takes me to a page with the application steps and requires 2 more continue confirmations, page still says job seekers allowance online. Next page asks for a postcode, duly entered. Next page then says my area is covered by UC and asks questions about savings, partners earnings etc.

We have already completed this and it took us to the universal credit application.

My wife is currently on hold to the number but it keeps saying she should apply online and online applications are given priority over telephone applications!

This is bizarre as I've had my neighbours talking about this today.

He's been made redundant after 15 years assumed he could claim JSA based on his NI record, tried to claim online but the form reverts to UC after the postcode is added.

He's tried calling and been told similar to you, said he feels like he's chasing his tail and just given up - probably what they want!

Can you not just visit the job centre and ask them for help?

You can't just turn up at a jobcentre, they won't see you. You'd have to make an appointment and I'm not sure they'd agree to it for something that's supposed to be done by phone or online.

So do you mean that you haven't actually spoken to a person during the previous calls, and have given up because of the automated message?

I can see how that was (perhaps deliberately) confusing. But hopefully it means that when you hang on and speak to someone they'll know what they're doing.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Yes i've spoken to 2 individuals today and been given the same line of "our area is under UC and job seekers no longer exists" First on the UC help line then on the JSA help line, both different numbers to this one. It was very helpful when the UC worker gave me an expired number to the JSA line - didn't fill us with confidence!

    Still holding...

Oh no just had another thought..

Is tax credits also in with UC? Our daughter gets HRC DLA and we get a small amount of CTC. I did log online to the tax credits online site and let them know my wife is no longer working, not heard anything back yet and it never asked if she was claiming any out of work benefits...

    More complications!

I have just tried the link, putting in a generic post code for this area and it has let me go forward to apply for New Style JSA.

Did you wife click the link asking if she wanted to claim for a partner or Housing costs? Would suggest you continue filling in the form for bog standard JSA then hopefully you will be given a reference number at the end like I was.

The link we clicked was to claim for JSA in a full universal credit area there isn't a question about housing costs or asking about a partner joint claim?

when I did the test run it asked if I had savings over 16k and would my partners hours disqualify me for UC - I said yes to both

Then answered a few more questions about partner and it came I I qualified for JSA and gave me a reference number to carry on

I can see the confusion, who came up with these names? "New Style JSA"?

Its as if they trying to deliberately make it confusing so less people know about it and as such claim.

supersaver, can you list the flow of questions you are asked that take you to the Universal Credit application please? We might be able to spot what is going wrong.
