Your wife will have to ring them but when she does she needs to tell them she wants to claim New style CB JSA and NOT UC.

I still think she may be eligible for new style. Did your wife work full time?

Might be worth waiting for Alice Holt to come along. She has more knowledge of benefits than me!

Yes worked full time for local government, was made redundant end of March.

    Thanks Ames and poppy

I should have been clearer in emphasising the new style JSA part.,

It won't be Universal Credit that she needs to claim because you work and that based on household income. It will be New styles JSA (CB JSA) that she needs to claim. See this link with the phone numbers also.

Thanks, yes that's the page we've been using. Yet when you click to claim it asks for a postcode, then it starts on a UC claim, JSA isn't mentioned or isn't an option to claim purely for contributions based.

I do honestly feel like banging my head on a brick wall!

We tried to call, the message says new claims to be submitted online!

This is bizarre as I've had my neighbours talking about this today.

He's been made redundant after 15 years assumed he could claim JSA based on his NI record, tried to claim online but the form reverts to UC after the postcode is added.

He's tried calling and been told similar to you, said he feels like he's chasing his tail and just given up - probably what they want!

Can you not just visit the job centre and ask them for help?

In the link it clearly states that if you're in a full UC area and you can't claim NEW JSA online then you need to ring the 0800 number.

I just checked that link and I filled in for the new JSA with no bother, putting in a post code that is a UC area

When you ring the number you have to be clear and make sure you ask to claim New style Contribution based JSA not UC.

And to add to the confusion there is a different phone number on the CitA site!

Seems like DWP have no idea what they're doing when it comes to UC or New style JSA or ESA. We had the same issue a few weeks ago with another poster who's husband was trying to claim New Style CB ESA.
