Hi
I live in a block of flats (1st floor) and whenever it rains water drips onto the window sil and the hollow material used means it causes noise and a disturbance. I was thinking of cutting some type of foam strip and sticking it on to lessen the noise, but unsure what material to use and how to stick it on.
Also my bedroom window sil I can reach, but the living room one there is a tall glass so will need find a way to drop it on, unless I hire a ladder
Would appreciate any ideas what type of material I should use (ideally white) and how to stick it on easily.
Thanks

Go for something impermeable because otherwise it will soon go green and become a window box. Some sort of foam with a tape layer on top, you could make your own if you can't find the right sort of material. As for fixing it on the living room ledge, I think you'll have to put up with the noise or hire a ladder. I can't see how trying to drop something onto it is going to work.0

I had something like this to minimise noise of water dripping, https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/wet-foam-cylinder-3-pack/574254-1000
Don't know if they do it in white ...0 -
thanks for the suggestion, I need a flat foam alternative e.g. a camping mat? main concern is how to stick it to the plastic window sil..0

Hi,
what about the oasis stuff used for flower arranging,
you'll get some at your local florists.0 -
You're better off trying to solve why water is dripping onto it.
Leaky gutter? Angle of upstairs window cill?
Or is really always just the rain straight from the sky?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

its a flat roof with a gutter to the side of the roof (not on the front where the drip is).
I have informed the useless management company who probably wont do anything.
So I think it is coming from the roof and dropping down, and due to the hollow material and distance the water is falling its amplifying the noise.
the oasis stuff will be an eye sore, I need something flat I can stick on. Will try the PVC glue recommendation.0 -
Have you spoken to anyone in your block? Some above or beside you may be experiencing the same problem and may be willing to share the cost or gang up on the management company with you...
Also, it may be worth contacting the water company for advice, but inform the management company first as it may spur them into action.
On a related matter this seems to be a common problem. Note this web page called 10 Tips for Silencing Noisy Rain GuttersFree thinker.:cool:0 -
Hi
Ive got the same problem. I live in a ground floor flat and the rain and gathered water drips from the window sil from the above flat. The depth of there window sil is shorter than mine so basically any drips drop down onto my window sil making a loud tapping noise on impact. Did you find a fix/solution? I was also looking for some sort of gym mat that I cut and glue to my window sil to lessen the impact of the rain drops. Ive got some white polystyrene which im going to glue to my window sil to see if this helps to lessen the noise. Some sort of sponge would be ideal, just concerned that the foam will go discoloured or look unsightly.
Only other solution I can think of is putting some guttering underneath the windowsil of the flat above or cut my window sil shorter than theirs.
Any advice would be appreciated!1 -
