The dealer is liable for all faults present at time of purchase. The warranty is for issues that occur after purchase.

Although, as with anything else, any faults which becme apparent in te first 6 months are assumed to have been there at time of purchase unless the dealer can show otherwise.

Given the complexity of modern cars, it's quite usual to have problems show up once you start using it that couldn't reasonably have been seen during an inspection / test drive. And that's not even considering faults that some dealers might be aware of but "mask" at the point of sale (resetting warning lights for example)

OP, cancel the warranty. It's a sharp business practice (at best) and morally you owe them nothing.

Used car warrenties are yet another misselling scandle. It is paracticaly impossible to get a claim paid on many of them.

All the dealer has done is to claw back some of the discount you requested by adding the warranty. He probably earns at least 20% commission on that, so he's going to recover about £70 that way. If you cancel he may or may not lose the commission, but it's not your problem, legally or morally.
There are always discounts to be had at point of purchase, you just need to be prepared to get up and walk away to get them.
