My mother needs a rise recliner chair but I do worry that many of these companies that sell products for older people are out to rip them off.
Anyone know of a decent company that do armchairs that rise up to help people stand up?
thanks

My neighbour has just bought a riser-recliner from a furniture shop in Ash Vale, Surrey. If you're near there, they are worth a look, Vale Furnishers. She didn't pay VAT because she was able to sign to say that she had one of the medical conditions that necessitates the chair. If you're not in Surrey, the chair is made by a company called Wiltshire and I'm sure they have other stockists. She's really pleased with it. Well worth visiting a showroom because there are various sizes, models, fabrics, etc and it's important to get the right fit. Don't be tempted to buy online without having tried a number of them out.0

See my post in the Praise, Rant & Warnings forum giving praise to Amazon & Better Life Healthcare. about our good experience of trying to buy a chair from the latter (the chair we ordered was on both Amazon and Better Life but you could buy it VAT free direct from Better Life).
We didn't actually get the chance to use the riser recliner chair we'd ordered (note if buying online you need two people at home to be able to take the chair into the house when its delivered), but they were very good at cancelling the order and refunding us despite having made a failed attempt at delivery. They are part of Lloyds Pharmacy, so a well established company.0 -
Look for a local shop specialising in mobility equipment & the like. There are a couple in our town so they must be elsewhere. You'll get good advice & be able to see & try out what you're buying.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

We bought ours from HSL, probably not the cheapest but does come with a five year guarantee. It was delivered, assembled and the rubbish taken away.
One chair developed a fault, an inspector came out, ordered a new part and was replaced with no quibble. Again rubbish taken away.
Forgot to mention the chairs come in different sizes, mine being petite and my husband's grande.0 -
While not the cheapest, Rise & Recline's riser recliner chairs are of high quality. The main benefit is that they're made in the UK and made to measure.
They have some videos up on the different mechanisms, and Virgin Radio's Sam Pinkham did a video on them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9BdOeGBZxc0 -
Do you have a re-use shop near you (charities and social enterprises usually with funding by local authority amongst others)? They usually have a stock of power recliners from reputable makes which they make sure are refurbished before selling at considerably reduced prices with three month warranties. We managed to find a petite dual action recliner for £99 and for a small fee they also delivered and set it up.0
