Duplicate key/fob for a Volkswagen car

I wanted to get a duplicate car (key + fob) for a Volkswagen. I have been told that the "trade price" of a duplicate key would be in the £50-£75 range, but when I called the VW authorised dealer, he quoted a lot more.
Has anyone had a VW duplicate key made and programmed, anywhere in Yorkshire? Or if anyone on the forum works at a VW dealership, can they please advise how much it would cost?

Your £50 - £70 maybe to clone your key which is not the same.
Cloning wont remove the old key and the car will think your duplicate is the same key as the original not a different code.
Not all dealerships charge the same also. Shop around.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I think Timpsons can do duplicate remote keys though the duplicate may not be branded.0

Price and who can do the replacement will depend on car and age.
Mine was £220 (2016 golf gtd) at VW main dealer who had to send away for the replacement, there were no alternatives.0 -
I made same enquiry, Timpsons can clone key for about £60 but will only allow actual unlocking and engine start, would not duplicate remote unlocking on my 2014 Golf.
Main dealer quoted £226 for fully functional replacement key which would take 7 days from Germany0 -

I already have one key, and want a spare just for convenience. That being the case, will cloning my key serve the purpose? If so, do you know anyone who does that for £50-£70 please?0 -
If you only have one key, then someone out there has at least one other key.
Would you not want that removed from the system?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
As above for my make I found calling around different dealers the price varied significantly, enough to make a 20 mile drive worthwhile.
Might be worth looking for a VW Specific forum and asking on there as there are normally people who specialise in this kind of thing at less than main dealer prices.0 -

When I bought the car, I was advised that it was a leased car and came with just the one key. I confirmed this with the business that had sold the car to the garage that I bought it from. But I would not be to bothered with another key being out there, even if there was one.0 -
Not if there was one, there 100% guaranteed was two supplied with the vehicle when new..Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
