Ryanair Car Hire Insurance

If you book a hire car with Ryanair you get sucked in with a low headline rate. On almost the last page, after you have spent ages entering your details, there is a section on insurance to avoid paying more at the hire car counter at the airport to cover the policy excesses on the car hire company's basic insurance. When you enter your country as UK the Ryanair website then says 'oh dear you don't live in Ireland, the price we quoted you was for someone living in Ireland, we will have to requote you' It then slaps £30 on the bill! By this time you have spent ages putting your details in so you give up and order the car and excess insurance anyway!
I tried to take Ryanair to the advertising standards authority over this, but the ASA say they can't do anything as Ryanair is not based in the UK. Watch out for this and buy your excess insurance elsewhere and definitely not from Ryanair.

BUT they are operating in the same way as a UK airline such as easyJet.
You have a point that raises other questions such as should their aircraft that are based in the UK be UK registered etc ?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

That particular issue will likely come to ahead in the not to distant future

Thanks for this tip. Ive always preferred to see honest upfront prices. So much so that i chose my last 9 days of car hire abroad solely based on being quoted the zero excess price upfront and being able to pay for it online well before arriving at the car collection counter. Due to seat booking fee shenanigans Ive already avoided Ryanair for the last 18 months but should I really need one of their routes, Ill avoid the car hire offer.0
