Virgin media switch

My virgin media contract runs out on the 20th of April 2018. I want to change broadband provider. I am being charged 32.25 a month for 200mbs. This would go up to around to 37.50 a month if i didnt switch. To ensure continuity is it best i switch now? as all i want is 58 mbps with fibre optic? is it best to do it early?

i think i just used that as an example. fibre optic under 60mbp is offered by a few broadband companies.
My real question is :

Vm and open reach services are totally different so there is no switching. You need to have a seperate line installed via open reach, chose a provider and stop using Vm, probably hard to arrange for the same day so there will be some over lap.0

find a good offer somewhere else, and ring up virgin media (150) and tell um what it is and your want to move to them and negotiate hard.
Ask to be moved onto a 50mb or 100mb package.
If they give you what you want, carefully check the paperwork matches what you agreed on the phone (as often it don't). Ring them up and get it changed0 -

If you want to use anyone other than VM, then it will almost certainly be over Openreach's network, so it wouldn't be a 'changeover' as such, the VM network and OR network are completely separate.
If you have a phone service with VM and want to port the phone number to whatever provider you chose that uses OR's network, you need to coordinate the provision of the 'OR' line with the cease of the VM service, but if the phone number isn't an issue, then you could get the OR line in before the cease of the VM service.
OR's FTTC service is upto 80Mb, but the lower speed packages are 38Mb, and 55Mb ( some ISP offer 38Mb as their lower package, BT offer 55Mb as theirs) but distance from the FTTC cab can affect the actual speed, that's why they have to say 52Mb and not 55Mb,0
