Putting a new reg onto new but used car

  • You could ask the dealer to assign the plate to the car online. (This is instant) then transfer the v5 to you. Then put the new plates on it, sort insurance and drive away

    Billy might be onto something. My dealer simply refused to do this, so I had to wait until the new V5 arrived.

    However, looking at the .GOV site it looks as if it might be possible if you turn up with your retention certificate and the dealer is willing.

    Worth a try.
