What is the name on the court judgement? That is who has to pay you.

A decent espresso machine is worth well in excess of £900, though there'll be enforcement costs to consider.

Isn't it the case that equipment which the business needs for continuing its work cannot be removed by the bailiffs?

There isn't a name on it, just the name of the business, I think I need to contact the court and find out about enforcement....

I think £900 is above the lower limit for engaging a High Court Enforcement Officer ... that route would have a higher chance of success - as long as the business isn't a Ltd company and decides to just fold instead of paying the judgment.

There is a name on it then. The name of the business. You have taken the business to court and won against them. The bailiffs will enforce against the name on the order ie the business.

They can, and will, seize any assets of the business they are able to. There are certain restrictions but a coffee machine should be good to seize.

It isn't a quick process though and escalating it to the high court may be a better option. Ring your preferred company to discuss this.

I'm pretty sure that "tools of the trade" can be seized by bailiffs but only from limited companies.
If there is a coffee machine and it's owned by a sole trader then it can't be taken.

AIUI if the goods are worth over £1350 they can seize them. Commercial coffee machines tend to be worth well in excess of that value.

It doesn't help that the op is a bit clueless as to who he has sued though. Better information may yield better advice.

Some coffee shops don't even own the machines, they are leased with service contracts attached so don't just automatically assume that because they are on the business premises and used by the business that the business actually owns them.

    Hi there

Thanks in advance for your time.

About 4 months ago I took a small business(coffee shop on the high st) to court over some damages, and the court decided in my favour. However, the business still hasn't paid anything to me yet, and I wanted to find out about how I can take this further. Seeing that it's a small business that and I don't know who the owner of the business is, what should be my next step?

You've got the judgement, now get it enforced-

    Easy- https://dcbltd.com/debt-recovery/

Can't pay, we'll take it away.
