My Whole World Has Just Fell Apart

hi everyone, i have recently found out my hubby has been having "intimate relations" with a woman from his support group and i am devastated though i know i will get over it as i have done in the past, it happened before, though not with him. i cant go on living with him infact i cant stand the sight of him at the moment but it will be a hell of a blow for the kids,we have 3,when he leaves as he will be going soon. i dont know how i will cope without him though financially and i am terrified of having to give up the house and selling it, it was my family home when i was growing up and i couldnt buy him out.
i have checked out the entitled to website and this is what it came up with.

entitlement per year per week notes Tax Credits-Initial Tax Credit:£6,090.24£116.48
Tax Credits-Final Tax Credit:£6,090.24£116.48
Income Support/JSA:£7,655.67 £146.42 Assumes adult-only Income Support/JSA(IB). Total: £13,745.91 £262.90 Total means-tested entitlements
Earned Income (net): £0.00 £0.00
Income From Child Benefit: £2,211.68 £42.30
Total Income: £15,957.59 £305.20

is this correct, it seems an awful lot for a single parent more than if i was working.
thanks everyone you advice will be most appreciated.

    Hi northernlass,

Single parent benefits aren't really my area, but the above amounts do sound about right. I am sure that somebody will be along soon who can give you more specific advice. With regard to maintenance, it may also be worth posting on the Child Support board.

    Lots of love x

Income support is £59.15 per week (but less if you have large amounts of savings etc). Child tax credit is about £46 per child per week (depending on their ages). Income support will pay mortgage interest but this doesn't start until you've been claiming for 39 weeks (there are exceptions to this if you have been 'deserted' but I'm not too sure how that works).
You would also be able to claim council tax benefit.

If you apply for income support you will have to see a lone parent adviser - they can do you a calculation to show exactly what you are entitled to and what financial support would be available to you if you were to find work.

With regard to maintanance - as far as I am aware if your ex is on benefits the CSA would only expect him to pay £5 a week maximum.

    Good luck sorting everything out.

I'm not so sure about the IS/JSA figure you've ended up with.

afaik, you'd get £59.15+£16.20 (ish) in IS i.e about £75 a week (not certain about the £16.20 bit - having a mental lapse), then the tax credits on top £116 ish (from your figures - seems a bit low to me, but it might be right) then the child benefit on top, £43 ish.

Total £234 (or maybe £218). Aloso you might (/should) get full Council tax benefit and might (/should) get Housing benefit or some mortgage help depending on your situation.

Where do you get the £16.20 from?

hi there, i didnt get these figures from anywhere, the entitledto website gave me these figures based on the facts i gave them, which were 3 kids, and nothing else basically and it came up with the above which i copied and pasted onto this thread.

I think real1314 has included the Family Premium (which is £16.43) part of IS but I'm not sure that's payable on new claims where CTC is paid instead of IS for the children.

Working on the old system (pre-tax credits) the OP would receive as Income Support ...

    Single person (age 25+) - 59.15
    Family premium - 16.43
    3 x children - 142.35

    Total = £217.93

I purposely didn't include CB as this would be deducted from the IS amount anyway, so she would still receive the amount above. Now, as far as I'm aware a single parent claiming CTC on the new system receives roughly the same amount, so at least it gives her an idea of what to expect as a weekly income.

HB and CT benefits would also be payable too if claiming IS.

    HTH :)

you cant claim housing benefit for a mortgage, but you can get help with the interest payments after a certain amount of time, why would you have to sell the home did you buy it together ?
