Years ago, I was able to type fractions in a post such as this. I think that was on my old PC, since then I've had two laptops. Anyway, I don't seem to be able to type usual fractions, is quarter, half, three quarters etc.
Having googled I see by pressing continuously on alt, and num.lock and then 0188 I might do it, but it is nigh impossible. I then you-tubed, but the voice-over shows keyboards not like mine.
Surely there must be a simple way?
I'm aware there are options within Libre Office if i need them there, but no use here.

I don't know, I just type them somewhere else then cut & paste, not too bad if you don't need it too often. ¼ ½ ¾Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

To use ALT + numbers you need to use a numeric keypad. If your keyboard doesn't have a separate numeric keypad then check if some of the keys are configured as a "pretend" numeric keypad when another key (e.g. Fn) is used.
ALT+0188 is ¼
ALT+0189 is ½
ALT+0190 is ¾

Do you use Windows 7 or 10? There is a Windows programme called Character Map. This is the 10 version:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-desktop-winpc/character-map-fo-windows-10/1d6daf7f-b1ff-4cc7-962b-2e4918708189
In 7 - just go to "Start" and type "Character Map" in the "Search Programmes and Files" box. When you have the programme, open it and choose "Segoe UI" in the blue Search bar. That has the widest choice of Characters, including fractions.
Choose your character, click it, click "Select" click "Copy". then paste it into your document/whatever. I keep C Map in my Toolbar, it's a very handy programme.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Presuming you mean DoaMI think you misread their post.
You hold down the ALT key while hitting 0 1 8 8 (on the number pad in succession, the number keys above the letters won't do this) which when the ALT key is released will give you ¼0 -
test , I have alt and altgr, and tried each of them, to no avail .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Well I learned something new! Thanks DoaM and Colin_Maybe!
It worked for me, holding down the Alt key and typing the numbers, before releasing Alt key.
But islandman, did you try the link I gave for Windows 10 Character Map?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Do you have a numeric keypad?
You press and hold down the ALT key
You press (then release) the 0 key (on the numeric keypad)
You press (then release) the 1 key (on the numeric keypad)
You press (then release) the 8 key (on the numeric keypad)
You press (then release) the 8 key (on the numeric keypad)
You release the ALT key
That's the sequence you use to get ¼0 -
