I didn't know where to put this question so I'm hoping someone on here will know.
I'm trying to remove a strut top mounting but I need a special socket but I don't know what they are called. You put the socket on the nut then you put the hex key through the socket then you use a spanner on the socket. This is like the tool I need in the video at 4.05.

Use a ring spanner and allen key,try to get your hands on a six sided ring end spanner that fits the nut exactly rather than fitting on the edges of the nut, less chance of it slipping and damaging the nut.

Its called a spanner. They use a ratchet spanner but any spanner will work.

If you have access to an impact wrench it makes things easier.

But how do you hold the struts piston to stop it turning, ok if it's scrap as a pair of stillsons or mole grips will hold it under the top bracket but not when you're fitting the new one.
  • If you've already removed all of the trim then you just need a spanner and an allen key. You can do it without removing the trim as shown in the following (by cutting down the allen key):

  • Or drill a small hole through the trim then "fill" it with a blanking grommet afterwards.
