Would you like a bigger spade for that hole you're digging?

Won't need one in prison which is where it is possible to end up if the Police decide you're trying to pervert the course of justice to get out of a speeding offence.

When did you send the paperwork off? That sounds a long time from the date you got the car. I bought car last week and had the V5 paperwork back in 3 days
Why would OP be sending any paperwork off, it is the seller that has to do that.

    Buys car.

Within a fortnight lends car to all-and-sundry from "foreign", without adding them to insurance.
Doesn't notice he's not received a V5C in his name within two months of buying car.

    Mmm. Occam's Razor, anybody?

The irony is that, at 37 in a 30, had he responded to this in a timely manner he would likely have gotten a speeding awareness course and no points.

But it wasn't him driving, it was any one of several overseas drivers that he lent his car to around the time of the offence. Apparently.
