The problem in a 4 bedroom house would be that the fan would be on constantly if that was the main or only bathroom which would cause a lot of noise. This could be a problem if you had a bedroom right next to the bathroom.

In a 2 bedroom place - I've have friends' who have lived in old terraced houses, new terraced houses and new flats with bathrooms without windows - due to the smaller number of occupants the fan is not likely to be on as much causing less annoyance.

You would only have mould problems if the fan was old, you didn't allow it to run enough by delibrately turning it off, and you didn't heat the bathroom adquately.

BTW I've seen really bad mould problems in bathrooms with windows.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

Having lived in 2 homes with integral bathrooms without windows it certainly wouldn't deter me. Both the places I had had been fitted with excellent extraction facilities, so damp & condensation were not an issue. Although as one or two posters have mentioned here, the noise from the extraction can be a bit of an irritant.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

It's quite common in flats/starter homes so that wouldn't put me off in terms of ressale (although I admit that personally I'd prefer a window). However I imagine it might be a problem in trying to sell a family house if the main bathroom didn't have a window. In addition to the extraction issues raised above, you'd be competing against most houses where there is a window in the bathroom.
  • I have lived in 3 apartments that didnt have a window in either the main bathroom or ensuite. I wouldnt personally do it again esp I a large house. I think it would be OK if say it was the master ensuite had no window, but it would be a sticky point for me.

Its OK to live with, but in my experience all 3 apartments, thats 6 different bathrooms! All got very dusty very quickly. Maybe its just me.

I have a window in my house now. I love it. Sad I know!

if no window bathroom must be seriously luxury to sell ,people always prefer a window in bathrooms i fight like hell to make our designers put one in, its a pet hate of mine and I guess perhaps 95% of purchasers as I said if no window you must think luxury to sell, acceptable in a starter home but not a 4 bed.
my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!
  • I have been house hunting (thankfully now found something) but I didn't even view any house/flat that didn't have a window in the bathroom. Its my own personal preference, but wouldn't have a bathroom without window. But also, in my exprience, most wash hand basins seem to be under the window ! Where the hell do you put the mirror ? Think men must have designed these.

would a bathroom with no windows deter you in a property you were buying? would it affect price in a 4 bedroom house?

Speaking as someone who has a few months ago bought a 4 bed property with no window in the main bathroom, I'd say no and no :D (The en-suite has a window though) I have to admit though that while the main bathroom does get used everyday by me and hubby uses the en-suite, its not used to shower in. I shower in the en-suite. I use my bathroom for the loo and sink and sometimes wash my hair over the bath. The towel rad gets mega hot so damp isn't a problem. Iv'e got spots in the ceiling and I wouldn't say light is an issue. Its not like I spend hours in there everyday so natural light isn't a worry for me.

In large buildings that have been converted into flats, it is perfectly normal not to have a window in the bathroom.
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

My last flat I rented had no window in the bathroom, and with 2 of us living there, after 12 months the paint had started to peal, and there were mouldy bits... a pain to clean!!

In a 4 bed house I would expect a large family bathroom with window, plus a separate bathroom/shower room, maybe ensuite to main bedroom, and a window would be nice, but not essential...
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
