bathroom with no windows

would a bathroom with no windows deter you in a property you were buying? would it affect price in a 4 bedroom house?

i like a window in a house - in a new build flat, i guess its just about acceptable to not have a window

just to let you know that some new homes dont have a window in them, especially if theyre mid terrace, just make sure that it has an adequate fan

Personally speaking it would not deter me if other things were as we were looking for, but I do think it's poor design, and no fan ever seems to be good enough (my mother has one and it's noisy and that's about it!). No substitute for daylight!

My bathroom doesn't have a window, and it didn't deter me from buying it, though I would consider putting in a light tube if I ever had any spare cash, but I guess that wouldn't be possible if there was a flat above it. I agree with the previous poster that you need to have a good fan though.

A bathroom with no windows will grow some serious mold. I have lived in several apartments without windows in the bathroom. It is nearly impossible to keep mildew from growing in such a dark, damp environment. I wouldn't do it. If you do, make sure it has a good fan and a very bright light (I mean bright!).

EDIT: Serious mold will grow with a shower; it is not so much an issue with just a bath.

Not a dealbreaker perhaps....In a 4 bed house I'd definately be looking for 2 bathrooms. If there was only one, then windows may well be an issue.

You might be able to pull it off if the bathroom was really WOW. I saw a lovely lightbox once in a bathroom with no window. Frosted glass inset like a window with an lovely ambient light behind.

My current shower room has no window. I always leave the fan running for a good 10 minutes after I've been in there. Most of my showers are just 5-10 minutes. And I live alone. It might concern me if there were a lot of people using it.

As for light, if I were to ever be redesigning a house and ended up with a bathroom with no window, I'd try to incorporate some glass bricks into it (maybe 3 rows at ceiling height, just to try to get a bit of light in.

The fact it had no window would be something that went in the 'negatives' column though in my decision tree.

If you have sufficient ventilation, and a modern layout with good sanitary fittings then I'd say no problem. If you look at modern bathrooms in 4 and 5 star hotels they rarely have a window.

Can you not put in a window? AFAIK in a house you don't need planning permission, unlike a flat. Otherwise get an upmarket extractor as the cheapo ones (like we have) are noisy and fairly useless even when we shower with the bathroom door open. How far away is the nearest window eg is it an en suite bathroom where there may be less of an issue, or a family bathroom?
I would say it would negatively affect the value of the house, but not by much if it's a well designed bathroom and light.

Just need to be sure there is somewhere else to do the hair/make-up thing! It wouldnt put me off if the main bedroom had good natural light and enough space for mirror etc!!!!
    (priorities eh??!!)
