Is conifer tree removal an allowable expense

If they are legitimate business expenses they have everything to do with tax, at least in any business I have ever worked in.
tax does not require that property is maintained to a standard, nor does it require that cooking facilities are provided.0 -
Thanks for your replies.
The only price I was given was for cash and cups of tea.
I will of course ask whether cash gives me a receipt, I believe the VAT issue is more to do with whether the company income or turnover is over a certain amount and not everyone is VAT registered.
As previously stated, I hadn't considered at the time, putting this against the property, although it is in the garden of the property.
As far as a thing else is concerned, I consider maintenance to be part of what is provided, I certainly believe things should at least be of the standard I would expect, so if I wouldn't accept with living in situation, then it needs to be brought up to that standard. Of course regulations apply, but even some of these don't mean it's good. Also what's the point of owning a property if it needs big fixes, cos it's not maintained regularly.0 -

We've just removed half an apple tree in a rental property (cost £400) and are submitting it as an expense. We have had it done by a proper company who submitted both a quote and an invoice.
We also had some work done to our oak tree a couple of years ago and that cost £500. Not sure how big your tree is but £1,000 cash sounds like quite a lot. Why don't you invite 3 companies around for quotes so you have a comaparison. Obviously that would include removal...although for our oak tree we actually kept our wood for the burner.0 -
If an expense is exclusively related to running of the business, then it is an allowable expense.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0

It certainly sounds like an allowable expense, but I'm not sure you could offset against income rather than against capital gains tax when you come to sell.
As a comparison, the boiler in my rental property broke. If I had repaired it, the cost would have been allowable against income, but I chose to replace it with a new system (not like for like) and from my reading of the tax regs, I can only offset the cost against any capital gains when I come to sell. May be similar here?0 -

That's what I was thinking - the tree surgeon that we use to look after the trees in our garden would never charge anything like that much (unless it was an extremely difficult job).0 -

It borders 4 garden (2 at the back, 1 next door and the garden it is in). There are summer houses/sheds in 2 of them, so I guess it's not easy to access or to drop branches.
Yes I do intend to get other quotes as well.0
