Electric Chain Saw on Pole

I am thinking of getting one of these, say something like this:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-ttb426gdo-750w-230v-corded-20cm-electric-pole-saw-pruner/99641

What I would ideally like is one that can be used at the end of a pole but also with the pole removed, so a bit like a mini normal chain saw.

Its not clear to me from any I have seen advertised whether they will do that.

Has anyone got any suggestions for a tool that might suit that purpose?

As far as I am aware, none of the pole saws do that. They all have the engine down with you, and the blade on the end - or it would be too damn heavy to waive about.

Please don't tie a chainsaw to a broom handle or summat... it's just not safe!! :D:D

Ok, thanks, the one I linked to seems to have the engine at the end of the pole as there is only a trigger switch at the handle end. 4KG.

... That'll teach me to read the OP post a bit more carefully, and be helpful! :D

Ah, electric! :D:D That might make a difference. Ignore me, I'm old and senile and tired and useless!

Petrol ones tend to have the (heavy) motor and fuel down by the user, and the chain is powered by a long rod or even a cable....

Electric ones.... no, I don't have experience of those.

I do have experience of Screwfix and their Titan brands, and it's generally pretty good stuff. I'm still doubtful that the cheaper end of the market will have the versatility you want, to be able to be used as both pole and hand saw... nice idea though it is!

Whatever you buy, do take care. Chainsaws can hurt quite a bit..
  • I think you will struggle to get that combination. In terms of getting the combination you want (if I have understood correctly), a hand chainsaw and then becoming a pole saw, the motor of the electric or cordless will always be by the chain, and the trigger would then have to be moveable which is not possible (I stand to be corrected of course!) you might just have to settle for the pole saw. Although there are quite a few adjustable pole saws but with a minimum length of 4ft.
Having used 2 stroke engine machines professionally for 30 years. I have now switched over to cordless machines, (hedge cutters and strimmers) I would never have thought there would be enough power in a battery but I was very mistaken.

There are some great cordless multi tools, available now too....no fuel, no fumes and no temperamental pull start engines!

You can use it at any height, just stand further away. My gardeners do this with a petrol hedge trimmer, I suppose it cuts down on how far they walk.

    And hopefully much less noise.

I had my doubts too about battery chainsaws, but took the plunge after reading up about them on Arbtalk.

Two winters on and I'm a convert for work in the fields, hedgelaying and felling smaller trees. Much safer too than some beast with more power than it needs, much of the time.

Also, it's much easier to hear whether a vehicle's drawing close when working beside the road.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I will probably try the Screwfix one, as it seems at the cheaper end.
If you can believe the Screwfix user reviews its well worth £50.

My £50 Screwfix mains chainsaw is still going after 4 winters of sawing up branches for logs. I had to improve the oil delivery to the chain when it blocked, but apart from that, it's fine. I use it with one of these:

Yes I have something similar to use with my petrol chainsaw which is still going strong after 20 years, but I would not dream of using it up a ladder, hence looking at that electric pole version.
I thought if it could be shortened it might save firing up the petrol one, mixing petrol etc, just for the sake of a couple of logs.
