Bad Haircut at Toni & Guy

I would just like some advice please. Had my hair cut in Toni & Guy in Canary Wharf.
I have had a haircut which now that my hair has been washed appears to be lopsided! I have curly hair & when I had it washed & blowdried at the hairdresser, it was curled up & looked even.
Now that I have washed it, I have realised that the hair is not even. One side is considerably shorter than the other (one side is longer than my jaw, the other shorter)
I have just called the Toni & Guy head office as I couldn't even get through to the one in Canary Wharf.
They have told me that their standard procedure it to send you back to Toni & Guy for them to fix it for free.
One of my colleagues has said that they should refund me & give me the chance to go to another hairdresser to fix this (certainly won't be going back there again!)
Does anybody know my rights? Would I be right in saying that I would prefer a refund? I paid £65 as I was supposedly having a 'Senior Art Director' cutting my hair but I may as well have done it myself!

You need to give them a chance to put it right before going elsewhere. As the information provided by reehsetin states, a court would look for you to do this before going elsewhere.Gone ... or have I?0

Unfortunately there maybe very little you can do. It is the customers place to instruct the stylist to your wishes this should as an unwritten rule be agreed to before hand. By taking this stance of i certainly will not be going back there is unproductive and you must give them a chance to rectify this (they seem willing to do so.) Best bet is to ask if the head stylist to rectify it . If the style was done correctly and it looked even when you left the shop then you washed it yourself its a hard case to prove it was the hairdressers fault. By When you left the hairdresser it was even by you unravelling his or her work could have caused the problem. These are issues that they may argue against you. Unless there is significant damaged to your scalp or hair i very much doubt they will refund you at all . if you have any more concerns best bet is to contact the Hairdressing Council of great Britain about your concerns: http://www.haircouncil.org.uk/0 -
Thanks for the advice! I am not sure that I feel comfortable with them butchering my hair again but if that is what I have to do, that is what I have to do!nothing to see here, move along...0

Lets not tarnish all hairdressers with the same brush asea to get to her position she must be competent and pass all the relevant exams. Go to the salon and ask for the head stylist or the manager who is probably qualified to undertake the work. Most importantly dont let this episode deter you from going to a salon again.0

I am not sure you have read my initial post properly! I have already paid for the Artistic Director (the most senior stylist!) to cut my hair. What exactly would the point of going to the head stylist be?
He cut the hair on my head one side shorter than the other (the haircut was a bob). Now how am I to blame for this & how would I cause this? What is 'unravelling' anyway? All I did was wash my hair! I can of course prove that it was his fault as my hair is longer on one side of my head than the other! No hairdresser worth their salt will agree that a bob should be below the jawline on one side & by the ear on the other!nothing to see here, move along...0 -
Ok lets get this clear did you ask for a bob in the first place? I am only saying what he could argue those terms.
Edit: Just asked my Mother who has over 30 years experience as a hairdresser
As he was the Artistic Director and you do not feel comfortable with him rectifying the mistake go to his understudy and ask him/ her to do the work.
Let them carry out the work and make sure you are compleatly happy with the corrections made. Remember you are in the driving seat in all this hairdressers live on their reputation.0 -
This is info from a couple of years ago from a friend who used to work for Toni&Guy, butToni&Guy brand themselves by having a "cut of the month", with the idea being that someone can look at someone, and instantly know that they've had their hair cut at T&G...
And given that A-symmetric hair cuts are "in" at the moment, maybe the stylist knew exactly what they were doing, and a lopsided look was their intension (although not your wish!)?!?
My friend was trained to try and persuade the customer to go with the cut-of-the-month style, or at least encorporate it somehow... I also know a few people who have been to have their hair cut at a T&G, and although they liked it, it certainly wasn't what they asked for!!
Tis difficult with hair cuts, coz you always feel that they might resent you going back and cut all your hair off or something! EEEEEEEEEEEEK!
I would at least give them a chance to rectify it though. make sure the problem is evident when you go along, and be specific in telling them what you want!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Perhaps you could go to a different T&G salon? xGone ... or have I?0

I've been to that salon quite a few times and there are lots of very good stylists there. Never been done by the male Artistic Director, but there is also a female one, who has done my hair and is excellent. If you want to PM me I could give you the names of a couple of other stylists there who are good.
Alternatively if you want to go to another T and G salon to get it fixed, there is a new one which has just opened in the mall at Liverpool Street station. I've never been there, but if you are close to Canary Wharf, then this one presumably wouldn't be too far off your beaten path.
Good luck0
