Hang on a minute, winter? You may be using 8 cu M per day now but it is not winter, in fact it's not even cold yet! Wait until it's -5 outside al day long.
Im didnt use 8 yesturday only 6. Last year i used 8.61 on timer. So as of yet i have some leiway.
Yesturday outside temp was 6 here. I watched the meter all day it was using .2 units during the day. The sun was shining on the windows so the rads went off (or felt cold to touch)0 -
Just read through all the arguments.....we're all trying to stay warm and pay the energy cos as little as possible surely
It is confusing cos the heating engineers tell you different things. I had one in yesterday telling me that what I do ie running the combi boiler from 6am - 10pm in winter - using override to heat myself up at this time of year for a few hours in the eves - and turning off my bedroom radiators (or turning the valve down to 1 or 2 so the rads are cold to touch) and removing the little radiator that I keep constantly off in the passageway is costing me money. He says that rather than getting rid of that radiator, I must remove its thermostatic temp valve and let it get as hot as it can, subject to a wall based thermostat in the passage (set to 21 degs). Acc to him, the towel rails in the shower rooms shouldn't have thermostats either as then they don't get hot enough to stop condensation and it should be 22 degs in a bathroom. He told me to install the wall thermostat and leave the combi boiler on 24/7 and turn down the bedroom radiator valves at night only if necessary - said he'd set a new system to make it 18 degs in the bedrooms (2 beds: we only use one on a constant basis), 21 in the lounge and 22 in the bathroom.
The only bit I followed was that as I get instant hot water, the HW on the boiler would be on 24/7. Water flow will be 11.5l per sec (Vaillant) which he thinks is a bit less than my Powermax 155 discontinued boiler is giving.
Sooooo - the heating engineers disagree on whether with combi boilers (I have double glazing but the ceilings are v high and the lounge gets cold) using a timer saves money or whether the thermostat works to save you money.
All I can suggest is monitoring the meter on a daily or weekly basis, timed and untimed, as long as the days involved are roughly the same in outside temperature (?). I am also in most of the day so need daytime heating.0 -
Heating engineers don't study thermodynamics though.Happy chappy0

I'm not going back through all these posts but I don't remember you ever saying if part of your consumption is used for heating or not. Obviously some is for water heating.0 -

Yes it is I have a condensing combi. It's 93% efficient.
I have a gas shower, gas hob and gas oven.0 -
Cardew, I apologise, memory not what it was and I couldn't face going back through all these posts again.
As a small side issue, I am wondering why you have recently started using large fonts so often to make a point. It almost appears like you are shouting and neccesitates quite a bit of continual scrolling to read your posts.
Not neccessary in my view as you get your points over quite accurately and eloquently anyway.0 -

Text removed to avoid upsetting TITEASCRAMP.
My shower and hob comes off the gas too and I have averaged between 2.5 and 3 units during the summer months over the last 3 yrs.0 -

Why do you all have to be so rude and nasty?
Do you think that i am a liar or that i dont know how much i am using or paying.
Edited to say i have the bills in front of me.
june bill 1.36
May 4th bill 1.53
We have a 93% efficient boiler. Clearly yours isnt0 -

For goodness sake. Can't you see the smileys? It was said with tongue in cheek and as a joke.
That's the second time you have accused someone of being rude. Methinks you maybe a little too sensitive. I'll not direct any more posts towards you and will remove the text of my last post if it makes you happier.0 -

And what are these 'units' that you speak of? Without saying your post is meaningless! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
