bank refusing to return cash

As everyone else is saying, this seems very unlikely, but given the sparse information, it is hard to be sure what happened.
OP, I think it likely that your daughter is not being honest with you or is getting confused about what exactly happened. As posted it sounds very fishy, but as you will not elucidate then you will not be able to get any better help.0 -
OP, you don't have the full story, unless there are huge amounts of money involved no bank would involve solicitors. Ask your daughter to tell you the truth.0

Although I refuse to name the said bank the Financial Ombudsman became involved and as this was an overseas bank who don't necessarily apply the same conditions, it took some time to come to an agreement for the money and some compensation to be paid.
All's well that ends well.0 -

Why not just use a standard British high street bank?0 -

Fgs I just spent a few minutes reading the posts as I thought it was a new thread. You could edit the thread title to say something like thread hpdated in brackets.
Edit then advanced0 -
So the ombudsman has jurisdiction over overseas banks now?0
-
Well that the FOS has jurisdiction over foreign banks and savings groups is also news to me and probably many others.
More importantly all FOS decisions are public and are published on their website with the personal ID details of the complainant suitably removed - though the financial group complained about is named by the FOS.
So here is the general search page for the FOS - perhaps the OP could list the DRN number of the decisions so we can all read about it.

..then again it might all be a load of fantasist rubbish0 -
Some people really do lead boring lives don't they!0
