bank refusing to return cash

My daughter had a bank account and began having problems withdrawing cash from atm's. On going to the bank was informed they would change the card, which they did but couldn't access the money from the old account temporarily. Eventually the newer card began to block access to new transactions too and she complained.
She asked for her money but the bank refused saying she could only have small amounts personally drawn at the bank so she asked to close the account. Unfortunately after this, some money was transfered to this account and instead of it being bounced back the bank accepted it. She has had many meetings with different managers and at some point signed a non disclosure that she wouldn't go to the press. Every time she had a meeting in another nearby town she insisted on claiming her train fare returned to her.
She has repeatedly asked for her money which they still haven't let her have and feels they should pay some compensation too. This has been ongoing for about six months.

The most likely explanations would be that she either owes money to the bank or the bank has reason to be suspicious about transactions on her account.0

IMO total garbage!
Meetings with managers to sign a non disclosure to the press - a troll and a very poor one at that.

jonesMUFCforever I can only relate what I was told and it wasn't the managers she had to sign the non disclosure but a solicitor employed by the bank.You choose what you want but non of the answers have been helpful.

Dear polymaff.
I was only helping my daughter for some information on what happens when a bank avoids repaying money out of her account and gives her a new upgraded card that doesn't solve the problem. I won't name the bank concerned for legal reasons. I wouldn't have signed anything myself.
She only did so on the understanding she would get her money.
I posted a query only to find out if anyone had a similar problem, seems not. She doesn't owe the bank money, it's the bank that may have created the problem. A basic account was what she had originally and when she had problems with her card using an atm in another area, was persuaded to change to another card which developed the same problem. She didn't get the money from the previous account, not yet anyway, nor the money that went in since. It's not a great deal of money, a few hundred pounds.
I guess it's best to leave it to the banking ombudsman to sort out.
I was only trying to help and I find to call someone a troll a bit insulting and disappointing on what I assumed to be a mature matter.
I didn't elaborate as you requested because I don't have all the information.

I can see why people might think this isn't a serious thread.
No one here can help you because there's obviously so much more to this than you've told us. Is there perhaps loads more to this than you know? Multiple meetings with bank managers and signing non-disclosure agreements prepared by the bank's solicitor sounds like fantasy.0 -

To echo the above; with the best will in the world the first post throws up more questions than it answers. I'm sorry but I don't think anybody here will be able to give you a straight answer to what seems a very complex situation, especially as some of what I suspect are key details are being relayed second or third hand. I would encourage your daughter to ask serious questions of their bank in person, raise an official complaint, and if that doesn't resolve matters take it to the Ombudsman.: )0

If its been 6 months, and they filed an official complaint; If they feel they have a valid complaint, they should take it to the FOS now (before time runs out - 6 months after the final response, or after the first 8 weeks without a final response).
I've never known a bank to hold meetings with someone when they make a complaint though (it wouldn't happen).0
