USB ports

My OH 's laptop has the USB ports shutting down - can anyone suggest how I can correct this?

Computor says the are working ok

Trying to connect mouse, printer, I Phone etc., they are not recogised

Check the USB port configs for power saving settings.

Or ... the USB hub in the PC is goosed.

How do I access 'USB port configs?

Are you using Windows 10 or something else? Have you been into device manager to see if anything is amiss? A yellow triangle next to a USB port might indicate a problem.

Yes using Windows 10 and no yellow triangle in device manager

Me, I would download Linux Mint, boot it live off a cd or usb stick and test my usb mouse etc that way.

If it was still not working, i would tend to look if there is a bios upgrade that will fix it.

Old versions of AMD chip boards had usb problems.

Have you looked to see if there is a restore point dated before the problem occurred?
If it is some sort of corrupted file, system restore may be able to sort it.

Have you rebooted the OH laptop at all ? Or is it coming from sleep i.e. close lid and expect it to work after re-opening?

Device Manager> USB Serial Bus Controllers> right click USB Root Hub> Properties> Power Management.
Uncheck Allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click OK.
Restart laptop.
