Tesco online - is it worth it?

You can find lots of the tesco offers at http://www.fixtureferrets.co.uk/index.aspI usually check to see if I've missed anything before I checkoutSome people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass0

Tesco's website is superb, very easy find the offers as it does them by department. I look at all of them.0

Well,
We have used both Tesco online and Sainsburys for the last 4 years without too many difficulties. What we don't do is buy any fresh vegetables or meat, prefering to buy the fresher stuff as a weekly shop. Tesco and Sainsburys do substitute but I find that if you ask the driver what subbies have been provided you can quickly evaluate them. Average online spend for us is £60-£80 which makes it very cost/time efficient especially if you live in London and don't own a car.0 -
We started shopping at https://www.tesco.com a few weeks ago and have made use of the discount codes, saving £ every week (we get the delivery on a Tuesday evening too).
Other than the codes shown here, are there any other ways of getting discount (and I have only been able to use one Tesco code at a time?).
Cheers0 -
While there are still codes around, Tesco.com is without doubt the best, cheapest and most hassle-free way to shop for me personally. I don't get tempted to pick "extras" up from the aisles, it saves time and money not having to browse around/queue/travel, etc. and, up to now, the delivery charge (at least) has been saved by the codes picked up from this forum. What more can you ask?
Let's just hope the codes keep coming .....Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
I've used tesco online a few times recently, mainly because of the money off codes on this site. My past 3 orders have all had substitions with items unsuitable, or items not delivered at all. Each time I've had to drive to the store the next day to get the missing things I need!0

This depends on the efficiency of your local store/where you live. Opinions on the benefits or otherwise of using Tesco.com are divided for this reason. I've never had any problems with substitutions ... they've nearly always "come up with the goods" and on the occasions where they have not, Customer Services have always been more than helpful.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
A tip for you, if you do get something delivered wrongly or find out after the driver has gone that you've received unsuitable substitutions, email the customer services (which is centralised not branch specific.) Every time I've done it, they've refunded my card for the relevant amount. Examples below:
BOGOF finest naan breads 99p each. Arrived and had gone out of date the day before. Was refunded £1.98 (even though I'd only been charged 99p) The birds and fox in our garden were well happy with their indian treat!
5 x 'Butchers Choice' chicken and turkey sausages ordered at £1.48 each (IMHO these are the finest sausages in the land!) but were sold out and had 3 x beef and 2 x Lamb delivered instead. I didn't notice them on the substitutions list until after the driver had gone. Emailed pointing out that I don't eat red meat and was refunded the full amount. Froze them and used them at a BBQ we had.
Ordered a nut roast for a vege guest we had at Xmas and they delivered a meatloaf style thing instead as a substitute. Again, they refunded the amount with absolutely no problems.
Note I was in no way trying to con Tescos with these refunds. They had simply delivered something I did not order so I felt entitled to a refund. They were happy to oblige.
The only annoying thing they do is when you order offer items such as BOGOF etc. and they deliver substitutes at full price. Any substitute items should arrive in carrier bags which are inside out so they are easy to identify. They always go straight back and the driver records the returned items there and then on his remote control signing box thing!
With the £10 (and occasionally £15) voucher codes which appear on here week in week out and all the special offers, I usually find my checkout amount is about £80 but the actual bill when it arrives is around £45. Suits me fine.
PS. BTW I agree with the poster further up. I always buy fresh veg and bread in store rather than online so I can pick and choose the freshest items.
PPS. When is Sainsburys going to follow suit! Come on Sainsburys, we want cheap shopping off you lot too!BE NICE - IT'S FREE!0 -
I've never given tham a go as I wasn't sure how they dealt with special offers. I know they don't show straight away in the shopping cart, but how do you make sure you get the disctount? Is it something to do with the driver deducting it from the bill? This is important to me as a large part of my shopping are special offers. Any help would be appreciated.Giving up is easy...... just keep on trying!0

You will get a large printout from the delivery man when the shopping is delivered. This lists all the items and all the discounts (BOGOFS, 3 for 2s) etc and will list the discount code applied.
I've been using Tesco online for a while and never had any problems. Most of the discount codes have a minimum spend (usually £50.)
The current codes are listed on this thread:
