  • Like Stewaj4 I have just received a similar letter. Its vaguely worded but states they dont believe I am entitled to a refund and goes on to state they will not look further into the case and provide deserved redress, but if I call them they may offer a payment for inconvenience. Its not asking me to provide any further information & the 'deserved' redress wording just seems bizarre

Has anyone else had any experience of this? I will give them a call on Monday, but would be interested to know if im wasting my time?

    Thanks

    What did they say?
  • I also received a letter out of the blue 2 weeks ago from Barclaycard stating about redress and unfair treatment and where they realised they could of offered me more help and been more supportive etc when I hit financial hardship a few years back and ended up on a DMP. At the time I had 8 creditors totaling debts of £48k and was struggling to meet the payments after interest increases. Barclaycard were the only company not to stop the interest charges and instead continued to charge me interest every month but did not register a default against me and posted that I had made monthly payments on time so my credit file looks odd. I had 2 cards with them with one being my Egg card that got transferred to them. Now the odd thing is that I have received a redress and refund letter offering me £542 and this was against the Egg card but when I called the 'helpline' number I was told by an Indian gentlemen that the letter was genuine as was the payment but he was unable to put me through to the team dealing with it ads they were not able to take calls or answer any queries and I could only speak to him but how he could not answer any questions only confirm things. Very strange and when I ask whether i would be receiving a similar letter for my Barclaycard account aswell he said he wasn't able to tell me and that the team were still reviewing accounts and it was random. I said that if I had received one refund and redress then surely I should receive against the other card he refused to answer then got quite inpatient. Whilst I am grateful to receive the payment it was would of been better for them to of treated me kindly when I was struggling. 4 times I complained to them about the interest charges as advised by Stepchange and they still refused saying they didn't have to. Still unsure where I go not if they decide not to refund for the other card I had

My card despite being handled efficiently and not in any problems was transferred in 2016 to link financial. I received a letter from barclaycard in Dec advising they were refunding £880 to my debt with link financial. Today I’ve had a letter advising they are removing the default.

I should never have had one in the first place and the last 3 years have been a nightmare.

I was in the process of looking to buy a house when this default was applied and since have lived in expensive rental accommodation.
I’ve managed a few months ago to finally get my car changed as I was coming to the end of a previous pcp agreement and I am now being charged an extortionate rate of interest for it.

I’ve today raised a complaint with link who said they would pass this to barclaycard.
  • I am new to this forum so excuse me if this is a late question? I was very surprised to receive a refund from Barclaycard (for 2 credit cards). The letter advised that there was a credit balance that should have been refunded to me and they went on to apologise this had not been done and, as well as refunding the credit balance, they were going to pay compensatory interest. The letter went on to say that there was no longer any balance outstanding. I thought it was a scam but I did eventually contact them, as instructed, and the refund was promptly paid into my bank account. That was back in May 2019.

Imagine my surprise/shock to then find out from my Experian Credit Report that a default had been registered by Barclaycard on 09 June 2019 with an amount outstanding of £3363?

I had got into difficulty in 2014 when my husband became ill. In 2015 he was diagnosed with a terminal illness and I contacted Barclaycard to offer a minimum payment as it was all I could afford. They advised me that it would not be necessary to make any payment! I found this really strange as they had harrassed me consistenly prior to that and the interest was building so much I felt I would drown in debt. I contacted them again to expkain I would prefer to pay a small amount as opposed to nothing at all. Again they insisted that no payment was necessary. The next communication from them was in April 2019 offering this refund.

I never received a default notice and as the refund letters stated 'there is no longer a balance outstanding' why on earth would they then record a default agaibst me?

I am 64 years old, working full time as we have no other income. If this default stays on my record for 6 years I shall be 70 before my record is clear. It will make life really difficult should I need financial help in the next few years.

Can anyone make any sense of this please? If Barclaycard insisted I pay nothing, then refund me stating 'there is no longer a balance outstanding' how then can they register a default on my account?

Thanking anyone in advance for any advice on this. I'm still trying to get through to Barclaycard for an answer.

    Many thanks

Hi I had my mortgage with Barclays for over 25 years and in 2016 I had a heart attack and that caused me to fall into a really bad depression state and caused me to have no contact with the outside world, not opening my mail.
I also struggled with debt and therefore missed about 6 months of mortgage payments.
This finally led to being evicted and making me homeless.
I did not realise the trouble I was in until it was too late.
Barclays didn’t want to know at all and offered no help whatsoever.
I begged saying I’d pay double the monthly payment etc etc trying everything to save my home but there was no help whatsoever.
I rang them so many times but all they said it was company policy?
Paying a fortune for advice of a solicitor that didn’t help at all.
I then contacted my local councillor who couldn’t help but advised me to contact my local MP Keith Vaz.
Mr Vaz wrote to Barclays explaining my situation but they had no intention of helping me.
Having paid all those years all they were interested in was to sell the property....profit / business before helping customers.
I’ve just learned that Barclays have been fined £26,000,000 for
customers in arrears that weren't provided high enough quality service. AND RIGHTLY SO.
My life was destroyed by them, everybody makes mistakes but these companies make money out of honest people.
I am now living in rented accommodation paying three times my old mortgage payment.
Any advice would be appreciated but I think it’s probably to late now.

  • Sorry I also forgot to mention I borrowed £10,000 of a friend to pay back all the arrears with interest but Barclays didn’t want to know?
  • Barclays won't be interested in whether you're borrowing from friends, only whether you are making your mortgage payments.

Time to let this one go.
