Invoice Not Relating to Me

Hi All,
I moved into a rented property temporarily from Feb 1st to the present date, during which time I got three fills of oil, two for around £50 and the final was £200. The first time I called the oil company they added my name and account. All oil was paid for over the phone via my debit card.
Today I received an invoice from the oil company seeking historical bills from 2016 and addressing the invoice to me, I have refuted these bills as they don't belong to me, the oil company is now considering my case, however what are my rights here?

You'll be fine, just refuse to pay and worst case they take you to court where you can easily show it is not your debt and you are not liable for it and it will all be dropped. It would be worth passing your landlords details onto them though as they should have at minimum the name of the liable party, possibly an up to date contact address for them.0

Interestingly it seems to relate to the previous tenant, the oil company appear to have overwritten their name with mine when I first called on February 1st. Am I wrong in being a little annoyed that they did this?0 -

No you're not wrong to be annoyed imo. But assuming you can easily prove when you moved in (tenancy agreement usually has a start date), then theres no cause to worry.
Perhaps make a complaint to them about the misuse of your personal data though. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Just received a response, they've asked what I'd like to put the matter right and have accepted they made a mistake as a result the debt has been lifted. No idea what to say.0 -

Phoned them back about the invoice to advise I was satisfied, the company demanded payment to which I advised that this matter had been dealt with so for the second time they advised the debt has been removed from my account.
It's since materialised on Social Media that the company have sent a few people these letters in error - some of whom paid, so I'm glad for me it's resolved.0 -
It might be useful if you can get an email or letter from them confirming that you no longer owe this alleged debt.
You'll then be ready for the next time.0 -

I actually just got a phone call advising that I am still liable for the debt so it's back to square one. I think this company is chancing its luck a little - I am now going to send a complaint email in.0
