I!!!8217;ll update here when I hear more. I have an email CCBC need to respond to asking for more details of what is going on. There!!!8217;s also the DJ I was told to wait to hear from.

Thanks to you all again. It!!!8217;s made me feel less isolated in dealing with this and the speed of the responses is unbelievable :-)

Your posts are becoming increasingly difficult to read. Have you moved to a different text input device (PC to iPad, or iPad to iPhone) because all this !!!8217; !!!!!! has appeared suddenly.

Here's what to do to get rid of it:
Please switch off your 'Smart Punctuation' on your iPhone/iPad as every apostrophe and some other punctuations convert to exclamation marks and numbers.

Go to 'General' > 'Keyboard' > 'Smart Punctuation' and flick the switch off.

Switching off seems to have no detrimental affect on any other use of the keyboard.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

If the former, I'll amend as I agree it looks ugly. If the latter then I'm not quite sure what to make of the comment.

I thought it was clear in what I said. Just limited to the !!!8217; gobbledygook. Why otherwise would I give you the detailed instructions to get rid of the problem?

Too touchy, or what?

Umkomaas just means the Smart Punctuation, not your English!

:D

• Sorry, Umkomaas, I have had a day full of analytics and pedantry (which I like!) and I saw your "... becoming increasingly ..." and over analysed it. I couldn't see how one dodgy post makes it 'increasingly'. Thought it was a side swipe, which often I deserve :-)Having re-read, I see your comment was well intended, including the iPhone instructions.
I'm still finding my way about on this forum and apologise for my response. I normally play nicely :-(

As do I. But nevertheless I always say it as it is.

'Playing nicely' for some of the snowflakes we get here would mean I'd sometimes be better spending my time over on MumsNet giving out cuddles, 'there theres' and nice cups of tea!

Similar to the day I've spent on this stuff on the forum (as I - with a very small number of others - have done so every day for many years). Trying to 'play nicely' every single day, in every single post, in every single thread, very often from the other side of the world, is no mean feat. Trust me, come back when this is all over for you and put in a regular shift. Test your resolve and patience. Help others as you've been helped by absolute volunteers.

I guess the only difference between your day and my day is that you'll be paid! :D

It is not a problem with your input device. The problem is that support for UTF-8 (Unicide) character set has been disabled in the vBulletin forum software that MSE runs on.

Instead of messing up us of your smart phone on all other apps & forums that properly support UTF-8 (as MSS used to) do as I do & just avoid using apostrophes when writing replies to threads on MSE when using your smartphone.

OK, I'd like to think I'm not one of those, although I do not like labels. Anyway, we had a misunderstanding, a communication failure on my part. I'd like to be friends.

Indeed, I and people like me owe a great deal of gratitude to the kind help of all on this forum. Unbelievable really that such kindness is given and a very robust 'service', too.

If I can be of any assistance to fellow victims of parking tyrants, I'd love to, although I think my input as a novice would be quite limited.

But your input can help, even if its just directing new people to the newbies thread, and as you get more confident answering harder issues and giving your POV
Everyone started off new.

No worries - must have been a hard day at the (MSE) office for me!
