Hi- I find it easier to refund via Paypal and Ebay will give you back you fees in a few days.

No they won't not unless you do a cancellation as well, and if you refund paypal first then the cancellation usually causes a defect.

Thanks. I found out that in order to get my fees back I had to do a cancellation even though parcel was sent and "lost".

The 3 reasons that came up for cancellation didn't apply so I phoned ebay and they said to click the option for "out of stock". I refunded from there.

Thanks for all the help given on this forum.

Ouch ouch, as per theonlywayisup that's the worst thing you could have done, as usual ebay were being less than honest. An out of stock defect is serious, as few as 2 of that sort of defect in a year can cause your account to be restricted, even now depending on your level of sales it could see you fall to 'under performing' which would mean you would no longer be eligible for the random free listings offered to private sellers.
It's a shame you didn't come back here first.

An out of stock cancellation is a defect for you. It's unfair because that isn't what happened.

    I agree, CS strikes again.

Well Hermes have admitted the parcel wasn't delivered and is lost.
They have refunded me back to my PayPal account but I have lost a few £ because I didn't take extra insurance out.

Now, how do I refund when the buyer hasn't opened an INR case?
Do I just go to my PayPal and "refund payment" and if so how do I get my fees back from ebay.
Seems easier when a case is opened and its done automatically.

Incidentally the correct procedure was earlier in the thread, you needed a case opened to refund safely. If a case had been opened you would have won it with proof of delivery, however you could also have chosen to refund immediately to close the case with no defect on your account.

A refund would have reclaimed your FVFs automatically, unfortunately by admitting you didn't send the parcel 'out of stock' you have lost your FVFs as well as getting the defect.

I did come back here first but no one answered so I had to go ahead.

as well as getting the defect.

I kept mentioning on the thread that buyer had not opened an INR and should she but all the advice was not to.

It was bad enough jumping through hoops just to get to talk to someone at Hermes but how to put it all through ebay is just as bad.

Seems that parcels go missing all the time so you would think there would be a simpler method.
So, to clarify if I get a parcel undelivered again the correct way is for buyer to open an INR and go from there.

A case is mentioned several times with a suggestion that you can't lose it with proof of delivery, I think it was only mrcoll1000 who cautioned against it and maybe one of us regulars should have repeated the advice earlier in the thread about protecting your account at all costs. Ebay have forced sellers now to protect their account first and then help the buyer , it is unfortunate but true.

In future, you need a case open firstly to protect your account and secondly to make a refund easier.

What you need to do now is check your expanded dashboard, see if it already shows a defect, it might not as sometimes it only updates once a month. Also check whether you have a fee credit for the cancellation in case ebay did one as a goodwill gesture.

Then as CS have told you to cancel the sale due to you not being able to supply the goods I would get back to them and insist that any defect is removed and if you haven't had a fee refund insist they refund that as well. keep on at them, point out that you acted on their incorrect information.

I did miss your question and have seen it now. However, you held all the cards, there was absolutely NO reason to refund until you'd had some advice.

There wasn't a case open and you didn't have CS breathing down your neck, it doesn't even sound like the buyer was in a tiz.

That said, I agree with soolin that perhaps a reminder to protect your account first and foremost should have been reiterated to you, but to a lot of people, they don't really know what that means.

The best thing you can do now is to contact CS as per soonlins post.

As mentioned I have been given a defect by ebay and they have taken my fees back.
I phoned this morning explaining that they advised me to
Can cell and tick the out of stock box. They can see by the messages that were sent between myself and the buyer, exactly what happened.
Ebay agreed the defect is not my fault and they would remove it and reimburse the fees they had taken.
How long does this take as nothing has changed on my account yet?

Did they say why they had kept their fees (that is usually reserved for seller disputed cases)?

You should see a fee credit within 72 hours if they've done it manually. The defect will take until 20th to go as that is when the "cycle" goes.

However, CS aren't to be believed - you may want to chase up the fees in a couple of days if they haven't been credited. The defect will have to wait until the cycle has lapsed.

I was mistaken about fees being taken but defect is still there.
I will keep an eye on it to make sure it gets removed.

Just to be clear, the FVFs will have been taken on the date the item was sold, have you checked they have been recredited to your account, can you actually see the credit?
