Flight delay - how long for the airline to pay

I was recently delayed over 5 hrs on a recent trip with small plant airlines and they have agreed to pay the compensation for this which is great.
The question I have is that they have said this will take anything up to 20 weeks for them to make the payment into my account which seems rather long.
Is there a time limit on how long an airline has to settle a claim once it has agreed to pay?

As long a time as you let them. 5 months is ridiculous.
Contact them back and request payment within 4 weeks or you will take legal action for recovery. (as long as you are prepared to take legal action)If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
