To upload a photo/scan link, you first need to host it on a free photo hosting site (like Dropbox, Imurg or Tinypic), copy the URL, paste it here, but change the http to hxxp and we'll do the conversion. Newbies can't directly upload links to photos/scans until they've got a few posts under their belt. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I am going to quote from my thread about claiming costsAs it has been a while, so I am just going to stick to the facts I can easily recall. After letting the judge rip their representative apart he sided with me and in his summing up he used to word 'unreasonable.' After he summed up I asked if I could have my costs, he asked what my costs were, I asked for my loss of leave and my bus travel which he allowed. I then went on to ask for my printing, stationery & printing costs, he said 'this is small claims, you cannot claim that cost,' very shakily I pointed him to the civil procedure rule 27.14(2)(g) and pointed out he himself had said they had acted unreasonably in his summing up. He smiled and said 'I can see you have done your homework,' and allowed my stationary costs. Then I asked for '10 hours for researching, preparing & drafting two defence documents and letters to the court about the Claimant's Behaviour.' The judge seemed shocked at the 10 hours I had asked for, at which point I pointed out that the litigate in person rate is just £19 where are a trainee solicitors rate is £118 an hour (in Maidstone). So a lay person is expected to take 6 times longer than someone who not even full solicitor. The judge accepted this and allowed all my costs: £95 for loss of leave, £5.20 for bus travel, £15 stationary and £190 for time spent, £305.20!
As you can see it is entirely possible to claim unreasonable costs in Maidstone. But remember the judge will not spell it out for you. You need to be able to respond to their questions, which will sometimes feel like they are telling you off, which at school you learned to just agree with the teacher. Do not do this, as long as you have a reasoned response they will at the very least listen to you.0 -

Hi IamEmanresu
Kent court.
I believe you are at Medway County Court tomorrow, in case no. D4GF8848.
I will also be there, acting as Lay Rep for another defendant before the same Judge.
This Judge (DDJ Bruce) has five cases, all listed for 10:00am. I hope we get on early, or there could be a lot of hanging about.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0 -
Keep a look out for me then, will be the two people looking fed up to back teeth!
Sent schedule of costs off..0 -
See if you can speak to bargepole if he is waiting there with you; he is an expert.
If his case goes in before yours - and yours will definitely follow in the same courtroom and you won't be required to be diverted to another room/Judge - maybe you can ask the Usher if you can sit in and watch the earlier case.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
