PC restart time just over a minute.

Hi my pc with xp on it will shutdown and restart in one minute 10 secs. I'm fairly happy with this but can anyone tell me if theres anything to make this time reduce farther. The pc is linked to a 2nd by a cable to share internet. Tia.

  • If it hangs slightly while logging off/restarting, you could try UPHclean. It's free, available from microsoft.com and will speed up the time taken for Windows to exit.

    Cheers
  • Sounds normal, in fact quite speedy to me. Mine takes 2-3 minutes.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

I agree, Mine takes a good 2 minutes
Bug? That's not a bug, that's an undocumented feature.
  • I would leave well alone. Often messing with settings has the oposite effect. Mines nearer 3 mins than 1. Most of that is because of resource hungry antivirus and firewall stuff.

Does the time to start really matter, as long as it runs everything well once it's started?

You could install a Raptor drive, and maybe do some of the tweaks here: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=235571

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

There's me thinking my trusty old 98SE sytem was slow. Just timed a restart and it took 2 minutes. Don't feel so bad now!

Thanks for all replies. I am happy with this time but I'm gratefull to hear how it compared. I've used a bit from this guide http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks1.htm

Hi Ormus -theres still room for improvement for me! Have pent.3.2 and 1GB mem. I hope that people will realise the ongoing penalty of using bloated software. I'll repost any improvement
