Afternoon all!
Regular lurker on the DFW threads and first time poster on the daily thread. Considering it's a 'Monday', for the first time in nearly a year I'm feeling upbeat, more relaxed and quite optimistic! I've recently taken the bull by the horns in trying to sort my life out, and have made some headway. I'm in the process of remortgaging and if not selling up so I'll be completely debt free. :T
I've also decided to stop the soul destroying eternal job hunt and am back to mystery shopping and other odds and ends until all my finances are sorted out. I've been applying to do some voluntary overseas work too, which I feel pretty good about. Not heard anything back yet, but have also been applying to do voluntary community development work for more experience before I go away.
After assessing my life here in the UK I've decided that this country is built on debt and credit. Sadly, once they've got you, it's very difficult to get out of it. Almost everyone I know has a credit card/loan/overdraft. No one lives extravagantly or in luxury by any means. I gave up my car 3 months ago and am dead set on changing my life for the better, which means getting out of here. The pound is so strong against other currencies it's incredible. £100k is over $200k US for example! Seriously, that doesn't even make any sense baring in mind you can't buy anything in London for £100k!
For people who come to the UK and send their money home, this is a good thing, but I find it very difficult to live even comfortably here, even when I was earning decent money before I got made redundant a few years back. So much for the BSc/MSc/PHd then eh!
I have been so fed up for the last year, but I thought that this was just the way things were. Whilst this is true, and everyone around me is going through the same thing, I want a quality of life which extends beyond robbing Peter to pay John, Paul and Ringo every month. Watching Eastenders the other day, my heart really went out to Peggy when she revealed she was £40k in debt. I think it was when she dropped a wad of unopened bills onto the table with a look of despair. I spoke to a friend yesterday who confessed that he is over £21k in debt with absolutely no way to pay any of the creditors back, and he now just ignores the letters and the phone calls. :eek:Of course I advised that this wasn't the best way to deal with things, but I could tell he was really down about it so didn't give him a lecture.
Fingers crossed I should know exactly where my future lies when all the financial stuff is sorted in the next couple of months. It might even be a very merry Ch****mas for me for a change!
Anyway, just wanted to say hello and hope you all have a good day.:DOGB - Queen of Bling baby...:A0 -

Make it your one day I will.
I have a couple of one day I will's and they are things that I will actually do. One of my Aunt's die last year she had over £30,000 in the bank that she was saving for when she got her new house, my cousin found £1000's of pounds worth of stuff she had been saving for her new house.
She never got round to buying it. So I promised myself that I would have some One Day I Will's that I will actually do:
One Day I will travel to Egypt 5*
One Day I will take any children I have to Lapland at Christmas
One Day I will look back at my life and be proud of what I have achieved
So there you go, make it one of your One Day I Will's.Current debt - £16,300

Am in work ploughing through a million emails from my boss after her 3 wk holiday

At least am feeling a bit better than yesterday - no migraine which is a good start. And NO! it wasn't a hangover from drowning my sorrows - I only had 3 glasses of wine!
3 glasses of wine would put me on my back
