I'm sure NW mission statement (as a financial organisation) would say something like.... "Striving to be above average"

When I worked for Nationwide in 2007/8 their mission statement was 'Be more like the Banks'.

I have two close friends that will NOT countenance internet banking, the reason when I asked was they don't consider it safe from hacking.

Can anyone recommend underneath any good mattress or hole in the ground where I can get an assured return of 5%? I don't think I am being unreasonable as those deep holes are there to be filled and earn their keep. Have you seen how much those hole kings get paid??

why not do a switch to Santander, ring up make an appointment with a human, go in they will sort everything for you and they have a 5% regular saver with the lite123 account
I had an email from them yesterday informing me that they have automated the renewal and i don't have to set a new one up every year

Lightbulb moment! I'm turning over my gardens to holes!

I'm going to charge the depositors 15% of the value of their deposits (to be paid annually in advance (index linked of course) and will pay them 5% interest - I'll even throw in a "xylophone" decorated pot (with lid) to hold their money- (I'm generous like that).

Can anybody see any flaws? If not, the diggers will be in tomorrow....:rotfl:

Get some reliable gnomes in as defenders of the holes. I have noticed that Asda have a good selection at about the same price as the creepy broken ones at Homebase. They don't stock them at Waitrose anymore because customers were complaining about the occasional bouts of strong swearing. Still it never happened at the customer services desk (however much you poked at them) but Waitrose eventually issued refunds anyway as people were clearly very upset.

I opened a Nationwide FlexDirect account only this month. I even went into the branch and sought advice on a couple of things before I did it online. They had me on their system from back in 2012 (must have been a mortgage application done by a broker), and even helped me set up the ID authorisation in advance to speed things up.

Went home and applied online within minutes,...I'm a bit lost as to what the aversion is...? Logistically what is actually different to filling out an online application form yourself (that takes minutes), compared to telling someone in a branch the exact same information...?

Once I applied, I got everything in the post. Used the details to set up online banking and was able to transfer the £2500 and see it in my account instantly. I then applied for the regular savings account instantly and deposited a further £250 into that too. Set up the standing order to rotate the required £1000 each month, and a standing order to deposit £250 into the regularly savings account too.

This was all done in mere minutes from home and was great to see it all pop up in each account instantly.

The gnomes are protected under "Elf 'n' Safety" and I'm not allowed to expose them to weather/stoning hazards? Not to mention what the birds might do?:)

You can get specialist liability insurance for that sort of thing.
