Sky TV!

Options
HI,
Yesterday our Sky HD box went pear shaped. By pear shaped I mean BBC 1 & 2, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 all went OFF. All of the other Sky channels that we subscribe to worked fine. I put this anomaly down to the shoddy weather!

Today when I got back from work, I tried the TV. The same issues occured so, as we have a spare HD box (the kids left home 2 years ago), I plugged that in, in the hope that it was just the box at fault. Yet, even with the 'new, old box' the SAME issues were still prevalent!

So, we contacted Sky and there was nothing that could be done apart from, we get either: An engineer to come and fix the problem (at a cost of £65), this was reduced to £30 when I pointed out it was a problem with their equipment and not our boxes, OR we get a NEW Q Box (at a cost of £65 and then an extra £12 per month for 18 months). We chose the Q Box as, our HD boxes are getting on a bit and further problems will no doubt become more frequent!!

Anywho, 10 minutes after we had arranged for and paid for a new box....ALL the missing channels miraculously returned!!

So, my question is, please...Is this a scam by Sky, just to keep the money coming in, or was it just very (un)fortunate timing?!

Many thanks
DillyBob

Sounds like your dish needs re-aligning.

Sky didn't switch off your channels, nor did they switch them on again.

If it was a scam by Sky, it's not a very good one. :rotfl:

Depriving you of channels that you can receive for free by numerous other means, but letting you carry on viewing their own ones?

I agree with Moneyineptitude, definitely sounds like a dish issue.
  • Thanks for the reply :). It just seemed strange how the dish managed to realign itself 10 mins after we had contacted Sky ;)

It hasn't 're-aligned itself' and it will lose the channels again, that's guaranteed.

It's picking up a weak signal and losing groups of channels, a simple dish re-alignment will sort it.

If you can access the dish yourself you can get a satellite finder meter for around £10 and do it yourself. I'd cancel the Q system and take them up on the £30 engineer visit if you can't do it.

Don't know where the OP is, but it could have been a build up of snow on the LNB.

We had the same problem last night. I suspect that it was weather related as the terrestrial digital TV signal was U/S too
