I'd dump my LL if I could get a decent signal all the time & unlimited data0

Done that, but you are unlikely to find a SIM deal with unlimited tethering. I have unlimited mins, 30GB per month. £20 per month on Three (Advanced plan).0

I went quite a long way down this route, planning to leave Virgin cable. I needed a router that would accept LAN cables (PC and other devices) as well as hotspot. I chose a Huawei E5186 4G LTE Router and found that gave me 37Mbps on EE. I paid £65 on Ebay, but if you just wanted a hotspot you could find one for £25.
I also wanted to keep my old phones. So I got a VOIP adapter (about £25) and a VOIP service from SIPPGATE (free for incoming - would have been about £10/month all calls included). I did some testing and was happy with the quality.
The hardest part is estimating data usage to decide on a suitable contract, Your ISP can give a figure, or you can measure at the router. I decided that 30GB would be fine, and I found some SIM only deals that would allow tethering and were capped (You don't want to go over the limit and pay penalty rates).
In the end I worked out I could get the whole thing running for about £25/month (including all calls to mobiles) and gave my notice to Virgin.
I had never succeeded in getting a good deal from Virgin before, because we only have 19Mbps as a landline alternative. But when I explained the system, they came down to £29, so I have stayed for another year.0 -
My household has moved over to streaming for over half our TV viewing. Usage nearing 100GB some months. I’m aware there are no economical 4G deals for this kind of usage.0

The traveling time to those locations to get a signal would be prohibitive for me0

OP, do you know what your current usage is? If using unlimited cable/fibre you don't tend to worry about it, but it is only by measuring that you will find whether you require unlimited or can choose a certain level of 4G. Do read the small print... some 'unlimited' actually throttle you down to 3G above a certain usage.0

I've got a phone line with my Virgin BB which I have never used to make a call; I called them this week to get it removed and they came back with a reduced price to keep it.0
