Claim back the monthly charge of course! They did not need holiday insurance as they did not go on holiday (could not afford to) and he would not need cover to be a passenger in someone else's car, why would he benefit from this!

So why was he stupid enough to pay for something that he didn't need?

No point insulting poor Aunty Jean's partner. Just give a simple answer to the original question, which is:

    Not very likely.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

My partner had a Lloyds TBS account (Gold) when we met 10 years ago and was going through his divorce. He had to look at his finances and I noticed he had a monthly charge of (I think) £7.50. I asked him to query this and he discovered that it included benefits such as travel insurance and car breakdown cover. He cancelled it as a) he didn't have a passport and b) he doesn't drive (never had a car licence).

As it was so long ago he no longer has statements so does not know how long he had been paying these charges. Can he still claim?

Hi Aunty Jean, not sure if this will help, but I got moved to a paid account by Lloyds TSB without my permission probably over 10 years ago. I did notice and queried it and they told me I had to have this paid account to be eligible for a debit card even though the other services were of no use to me. I recently saw on MSE that a lot of people were mis-sold. I sent them the template later in January and have received over £2,000 about 6 weeks later. I still have the account so I went through my online banking and wrote a list if charges and dates, which I included with the letter. I think you can contact them and ask for a list of these charges rather than the statements. Hope this helps. Love Kitty Bear xx

Must have been around the time my OH had the same thing happen. Luckily he noticed after about eight months - he was dealing with a terminally ill parent at the time and some things got overlooked. He has become much more diligent as a result, checking his account online every day.

Totally unethical practice, and I'm sure it would never happen nowadays. We now get thick booklets of "changes to your terms and conditions" for even fairly minor alterations, possibly only affecting services we never use. At least, thinking about it, I get these from NatWest - not sure whether he gets anything similar from Lloyda. They seem to be a law unto themselves :( .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

He also got mobile phone insurance.

As part of the Gold account, there is generally a fee. (it's not an add on pack)

If the account was not suitable he shouldn't have taken it out
