Lloyds TSB Package

My partner had a Lloyds TBS account (Gold) when we met 10 years ago and was going through his divorce. He had to look at his finances and I noticed he had a monthly charge of (I think) £7.50. I asked him to query this and he discovered that it included benefits such as travel insurance and car breakdown cover. He cancelled it as a) he didn't have a passport and b) he doesn't drive (never had a car licence).

As it was so long ago he no longer has statements so does not know how long he had been paying these charges. Can he still claim?

The travel insurance policy also covered UK travel, for which you don't need a passport! The car breakdown policy covered him as a passenger in someone else's car, for which you don't need a driving licence!

    Claim for what?

Claim back the monthly charge of course! They did not need holiday insurance as they did not go on holiday (could not afford to) and he would not need cover to be a passenger in someone else's car, why would he benefit from this!

    How would Lloyds know this?

My OH discovered a few years ago that he had been switched to a Lloyds account charging him £10 a month, without ever agreeing to this. When he complained they gave him a partial refund and put him back on a normal free current account.

It seems to be something that Lloyds do (or did) without asking, and hope you don't notice. You should query it and ask for the deductions to be refunded.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Probably not entitled to a refund but try putting in a claim. You'll be no worse off if they deny it - I wouldn't get too shirty or take it to the ombudsman though, just appeal to their *cough* better nature.

You can always try calling TSB or Lloyds depending on what bank you are with now but the scenario is unlikely to be entitled to a refund, it is not comparable to PIP.

Have you not still got whatever it was you "noticed" this charge on? Or are you saying you noticed this 10 years ago but are looking for some sort of refund now?

Of course, don't ask, don't get so worth a try, but failing to notice a £7.50 charge on your bank statements for goodness knows how long has to have an element of being his own fault, though I get that there are a lot of people out there who don't!

Bogoff-babe may be correct in that he was switched without his knowledge to an a/c with a charge levied for various insurance cover (usable or otherwise), but TBH my husband has banked for over 50 years with TSB/Lloyds TSB/Lloyds & the only account switching that's taken place within the group has been instigated by us, & never without our permission.

Good luck with it, but keep your expectation low.

Am I the only one who gets exasperated by those who claim for their own stupidity? I never had PPI or a packaged bank account. I would notice on the day if a debit was made against my account for something I hadn't signed up for. I appreciate others might not be as diligent as me but it annoys me nonetheless.

It's actually amazing how many people admit to being thick.

If I'd had one of these accounts, throwing money away for years then I'd keep quiet.
