Hi everyone,
maybe (probably) a stupid question but is there any problem (in terms of house value above all) in having a small Artillery base near your house?

Thank you
Max!

I'd consider future residential development likely. If there's currently a nice view then ask yourself how much it matters to you if that becomes flats in a few years.
Officially in a clique of idiots
  • :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:at what the reaction of some of us would be to that:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:- ie myself for instance.

My own reaction would boil down to "That's going - as soon as you like. Oh boy....work to do...:(".

How near is it to your house?

Good point... It is at the rear of my house and their perimetral wall is 100 Ft. away.
The barracks are low and there is some green space.
I have thought about that possibility too really, but as things stand, is the artillery itself a negative factor to the house ?
  • Well - it would be to me, ie because I'd be spending time getting rid of it as a neighbour.

I would suspect some others wouldn't be too happy about having it nearby per se - even if they wouldnt regard it in quite the same light I would personally. Safety (ie was I quite sure they were being safe generally?), followed by "Anything military might be some sort of 'target' to terrorists" type thinking.

    It's a target.

    * ISIS or ISIS sympathisers could target a military base

    * the splat between the UK & Russia could escalate, resulting in chemical weapons being used againt the base.

    * Brexit could result in a hard border between Northern Ireland & Eire, the Good Friday Agreement will collapse, and the IRA re-commence their bombing campaigns of the 70s.

    * The duty-officer could negligently discard his cigarette next to the armoury........

Given the current relationship with Mr Putin, UK Army gunners are the least of your worries....

Come to sunny Ascot & live next to a nuclear reactor...

A low power nuclear research reactor (100 kW thermal), named CONSORT II, was licensed at the site on 20 December 1962, completed February 1963, and achieved first criticality in 1965.[7][8] The reactor will be decommissioned by 2021.[9]

    I wouldn't worry personally.

Remember the biggest peacetime explosion in the UK was in Hemel Hempstead when buncefield went up in smoke. This was an oil depot.

Your depot will probably be flats soon with names like Gunpowder Court, Uzi Boulevard and Gatling Gate.
