O/S Daily Friday 16th March 2018
This is an !!!8220;over the garden fence!!!8221; type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It!!!8217;s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we!!!8217;re going to do today or what we!!!8217;ve achieved already. Everyone!!!8217;s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn!!!8217;t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don!!!8217;t post large pictures, or clip art !!!8211; links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don!!!8217;t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Now light, wet underfoot and lots of laying water and still raining, forecast is for rain most of the day, snow tomorrow, we'll see.
Dinner last night was mixed herbs chicken with HM egg and vegetable rice - really enjoyed it and was nice to have something different. The chicken herbs were a dry packet mix that came with a roasting bag - you put the chicken in then the dry mix and shake the bag about so the chicken gets a coating of the herbs then roast in the oven - chicken was lovely and tender, will definitely have that again. Not sure what we're having for dinner tonight but need to organise that this morning.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I attended the work training session, then onto to visit the bank and building society, and butchers. I went from there to the laundrette, which luckily was empty so I had my choice of machine (just aswell really as I used 2 x big machines and 1 x smaller ones) but they all are fast washes, so only takes 30 minutes, so got all 3 loads done and brought home, and then decided if I stripped our bedding and took that I'd be up to date and there was no washing left at that point. So went back and did the last lot. Then came home had a quick lunch and did the housework, again not a massive deep clean but now starting to find I'm getting back into a routine again with it, I wrote a list and marked things off as they were done, seems to help me, feel like I've achieved something and don't get so overwhelmed with it all. Dirty wash basket has stuff in it again this morning. I also did start a pot of butternut squash, potato and carrot soup going - but didn't get it blended will have to do that this morning.
Have no clue what the engineers are doing regarding the appointments to mend the fridge freezer and washing machine, as I've had 2 texts last night, 1 stating appointment is between 10.28 and 13.28 and another stating between 12.00 and 15.00 - I was told it would be the same engineer for both ...... both texts were sent one straight after the other ........ so have to wait and see what happens or if they arrive at all.....
I've decided to go first thing and do the food shopping, as we've still got to eat whether they attend or not and the chances anything is going to be mended today are slim, as they always seem to not have the spare part needed in the van and need to order it and come back another day. I'm hoping the fridge freezer is going to be beyond repair as this is the second time with exactly the same fault that was mended a year ago.
I will continue with the to do list and try to get as much done as possible.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks nmlc. A wet and windy morning here and they are still forecasting snow for the w/e. Double bah!
Lovely afternoon with DB and SIL yesterday. A run round the Dales then lunch in the Copper Kettle at Cracoe, the meal was cooked to perfection. A wander round the farm shop,, where lots of tempting goodies jumped in my arms, and then on to Hebden for a coffee and cake in the Old Schoolhouse before heading home. A really pleasant afternoon with much chattering going on.
So my 4 days of birthday treats and meals out is now at an end and some sensible eating is called for!
I have the DGDs to waken up shortly and "open the cafe" for breakfast. It would be much easier if they all wanted the same! Then try and instill a bit of urgency into them to get ready and get them to their schools on time.
Then the pleasure of the Friday Tidy awaits and is much needed. I need to address the overflowing laundry bin too. There's a bit of Bolognese Bake left over from the girls' tea which will do for Mr TA's lunch. I'll just have some soup. A freezer dive will be needed before I christen tea.
Well time to waken the girlies up so have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) as always for those who want/need them. REDRUBY I hope the doctor will have some answers for you and you soon feel better. Thinking of HOLLY. NELSKI what a shock for your friend hearing such tragic news. It makes me feel as though I am living on borrowed time in my advanced years. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning folks.
Another blustery night with the wind still raging outside. Sky is completely grey.
Last night I caught up with Shetland, it’s not often I find plots surprising but this one is. Not sure if it’s because the new suspect is a well established character or if it’s because I have always found him (the actor) very attractive.
Today I have to post off a couple of small presents. Then I think I’ll have a go at the recipe which Floss posted for me yesterday. Think my struggles with the new kitchen gadget have paid off, I know how it works now ans what not to do too. :rotfl:
I’m still horizontal and reluctant to become even slightly vertical. Don’t mind being awake so will do some browsing for a wee while.
Happy Friday to everyone.0 -
Morning all. The weather here is terrible as it was yesterday. The forecast is as well.
I seem to be a bit lost off with everyone's doings, I need to read back over a day or so.
Yesterday I had a hospital appointment, did .some household stuff, and that was about it.
Today, I'll try and see DD, she's ok, but nearly 38 weeks pregnant. I'm keeping my mobile on all night, and our bedroom phone volume is turned up to the max, in case anything happens through the night and her partner has to take her to hospital. We would go to their place, to be there for Dgd. We aren't going far during the day either, in case we need to take her to hospital - her partner works all over the place, sometimes in the Midlands or NorthWest, so we are the back up people.
Sorry to be so boring, people, - nothing else is happening!!
Take care folks, in this dreadful weather, and have as good a day as you can.0 -
Morning all,
Youngest had a lie in this morning and he's still sulking. He has to be in work for 8 instead of 7.
Grump finishes work today and is looking forward to a guided tour of Pembroke castle to celebrate. I'm more into churches myself, Norman, Gothic, perpendicular gothic...they all fascinate me. My first marriage took place in a Saxon church. The marriage was doomed but the church is still standing I'm glad to say.
Not much to do in the house today. Making the most of it, I don't know when I'll be able to clean it again.
ScarletRibbons News of a new baby is always welcome. Keep us informed.
Onwards and forwards

Dull and overcast here, wm is on with a load of OH work clothes so will get that hung on the airer and shove the towels which are on the airer in the td for a few mins to finish them off.
Thanks for all the good wishes Im off to see the Dr at 10 and hope he can help me, ive slept a solid eight hours again and still feel wiped out and tearful which is getting me down, im going to ask for blood tests, my mum thinks it may be thyroid too xx
Nels I am so sorry about your friends wife, how sad for everyone xx
Still thinking of Holly and wishing her well xx
Going to empty the DW and sort the washing, after visiting the dr I shall sit and do nothing and try and get some energy back.
Thank you again for the good wishes you really are the most lovely people x
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all, thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
It is raining and has been since I got up at 4, the sun is doing its best but struggling.
I'm on wash load 1, a couple more to get through today. The Friday Tidy awaits but it might be more of a Friday and Saturday Scrubbage as I have been less than diligent recently.
Thoughts with those who need some support, Holly and Ruby red in particular.
I'm still tired but nothing that the weekend won't cure. Roll on June. I'm not quite counting the weeks until Liberation but I will soon.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
The forecast is for snow later so making sure I have enough milk etc. The meters are due to be read sometime this morning so I can change to a cheaper tariff and need to get myself properly up and dressed.
I was listening to the local news and heard about an explosion in Osgoodby which is where middle dd lives so just sent a quick e mail to check she is all right. Youngest dd is driving over to stay with older dd and her husband tonight and several of them are coming over tomorrow so want to make a big lasagne with lots of veg. Not sure how many are staying over but beds are made up and will go with the flow.
I made a big pot of lamb stew in the pressure cooker yesterday and think I might be starting to get to grips with the pressure function at last.
Scarlet ribbons
How exciting for you all and a blessing that you are there for any help needed.
My tumble drier is going to be fixed (I hope) on Monday and have told youngest she can bring laundry if she needs to and we will use the dri buddy or radiators.
I am well set for fruit to nibble on and might have lamb stew tonight and eggs and smoked salmon for lunch and hope to make a mince bolognese base for a lasagne tomorrow so all I have to do is make the white sauce and assemble it.
Hugs to all0 -
Morning, (((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
I am bereft this morning, my combi micro has gone to have a new timer unit fitted, it was odd this morning having to heat milk for my cereal on the stove. I have had to change round the menu plan so I can use the remoska for most things.
Our local garden chap came last night, he is going to build a fence between us and our next door neighbour, so you cannot see through to the gardens from the lane, he is also going to cut down the rest of the laurel and put some killer on it. Waiting for the estimate.........
Need to wash the kitchen floor this morning, its raining so the mats will have to go over the back of one of the dining chairs. Its also quite a bit colder, so I have shoved the heating up a notch or two.
Crusted haddock for supper, no chips mash, peas and parsley sauce.0 -
Morning all.
Thanks for the thread nmlc, hugs to all those in need.
Not long now until we move off the marina, it will be harder work but it's still a good life.
I need to go through the calendar today as I think I've double booked my self.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all,
I had a meeting in Dunfermline at 2pm yesterday which ended up lasting 2 hours, so I just went home straight afterwards, giving me an extra hour in the flat. Done some minimal tidying, put 2 washes on and made dinner.
Tonight I plan on staying late in work and I've no plans afterwards. Working tomorrow so I'll stay quiet.
Judi - To try and play devils advocate, as a young man myself, I recon he was 'flexing his muscles' to his GF because he now has an empty home for a few days. It then snowballed and meant she's going to plank her bum on your couch during the day. 10 years ago, when I was 17, I would have done the same although I probably wouldn't have my told my parents for fear of a backlash.
RR - I hope you're feeling a bit better today and the Doc has managed to find a solution.0
