I know this is a chromebook but they do similar windows based machines. I just don't understand the point of them.

Very popular in education where schools and colleges need cheap machines with limited functionality. They are fine if you are mainly using web-based applications.

I bought a chromebook after years of windows laptops. If you just want browsing/emails etc and streaming on demand stuff I would say they are significantly better, especially factoring in cost.

I have a hp pro book for work and MacBook Air and dell 3380 chromebook for home. The MacBook Air is the best out of the bunch for my general usage but the chromebook was almost a quarter of the price and the operating system is really quick so I find it almost as good. Windows seems so slow in comparison.

Xsonly do some good deals and their customer service I found was excellent

If your looking for refurb models I suggest you get a lenovo thinkpad e series models and up. These are durable laptops performance wise not to mention the battery life. I got one some 3 years ago and to this day I never had problems with it.

Thinkpad is Lenovo's business range (they bought the division from IBM) so are built to be robust and reliable for people who are on the road a lot. Go to any business conference and a good proportion of the people there will be using Thinkpads. They are expensive new but as suggested above a refurbished E or X1 (Ultrabook) series can be good buys. I'm not so keen on Lenovo's consumer laptops.

What is that thing? Is it a Lenovo ThinkPad X131E laptop or a Samsung Chromebook XE303C12?
It seems that they cannot decide.

OP, what's actually wrong with the current machine? If it's mechanically sound, and your problems are all to do with software, then reinstall operating system, drivers and software (optionally replacing HDD with SSD at the same time), and your problems will go away for far less cost.
