Here goes  in case anyone gets bored!
I am in my mid fifties with 3 wonderful daughters and 3 beautiful grandaughters (5,2 & 10 months) and a lovely man at my side. Shame on me but he doesn't know the extent of my money worries - I am the one who has been hiding unopened statements and living with my head in the sand. Last night, no idea why but I realised I had to get to grips with things.
I seperated in 2000 and had to survive on nowt which is where it all started, cc's etc. Met my man in 2002 and moved in with him in 2004. Had a responsible job as a Practice Nurse in a gp surgery which I loved but was forced to resign in 2006 when I developed epilespy from brain tumour surgery in the 80's. Depression kept me hidden for a year. Determined not to let illness get the better of me, I bought a secondhand lappy off ebay, taught myself basic IT & business skills and built myself an online, fairtrade retail website. For a while it looked as if the site had taken off, sales were happening and word of mouth advertising working - then came the recession - need I say more? Stock purchases have accounted for a the majority bit of my debt, but so have the crippling interest rates every month...
I cut up all my cards last week after contacting CCCS, had a long chat with them on the phone yesterday and they have advised bankruptcy but that's a ghastly thought. I've tried to get work, had two offers recently, both of which were rescinded as soon as they saw my medical history..... It's not fair as the fits are now completely under control but because I am not medically fit enough to hold a driving license, they deemed me unemployable. BUT I have got an interview next week for a christmas job at a well known 'penny' store- wish me luck!
There were days when I felt suicidal but my 3 little grandaughters kept popping into my head and tbh, money's just not worth losing them for. CCCS gave me this forum address and I joined last night at about 4am:T. Have a feeling I'll be around for a very long time, but the response from everyone has been fantastic - when it's just you on your own dealing with it, you feel outcast, embarrassed and ashamed. For all the hugs so far I say a HUGE THANK YOU

Oh susie, it sounds like you have been through the mill big style.
Even if you are dealing with this on your own - there is a lot of help and support on here.
I realise how stressful this situation is for you. I am in a lot of debt too and the figures only reduce slowly, however if they go down a little it is better than them going up.
Well done on cutting the CC's up and lots of good luck vibes for your job interview next week. Hope you get it!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

Hi Susie,
No advice really as I'm not very good but hello anyways!
Hope you enjoy the forum, I come and read everyday even if I don't post just to keep my motivation up. Noone except my OH and me know the extent of our debt and that in itself is a burden. Good luck with your journey!

Welcome! Sorry I took a while - dont check in ever day!
For the newbies among us tell us a bit about you if youre able so we get to know you better! Susie well done for taking teh bull by the horns and youre right - money never worth harming yourself over...keep us posted re the jobSorry to hear though that things have been so rough for you...at least you have a nice man. I'm sure that he will be cross with you for not sharing your burden with him so please do...I understand about the shame and embarassment - my debt was all my own doing and telling people was awful but it sifted my supporters and people ahev been amazing...lots of silver linings along my long journey...
Lol re the lottery - 2 got 45 million his week...no point getting that much and i dont know why they dont split it into smaller numbers!
Also have a think about WHY you got into debt; for me boredom, not budgetting and shopping on feeling (any feelings - happy/sad-you name it!!)...once you do that you can see where things need to change and make changes! The main thing is youve started so well done...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hello, hows everyone doing???
Since pay day I've managed to knock the best part of £680 of my debts  woop woop, I am a new convert to budgeting but I've been very strict with myself, so I may end up using my overdraft, but we'll have to see how it goes.
I work at my parents in my spare time (to knock money off what I owe them) but this week Ive been on a course at work and come home
Bo!!oxed most nights, so to keep up my motivation I have gone back through some old threads and found 'Jacks xxx' s DF diary! that woman is amazing! :A I will be chanelling 'Jacks' for the next few weeks as xmas/M.O.T's/Insurance all take a hit on my overpayments!
Hope everyone else is having a good week and the PMA is still high!
