Probate

Thanks for the replies, I have been told by the insurance that they will require probate.
I have already done IHT205 online which was very simple to do although the resulting report was 24 pages to print out for the co-executor. It does say that the figures can be approximate within reason which I took to mean if the estate is near to the threshold it can't be too rough guess, all the answers I gave that weren't exact were within £10.If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is not for you!0 -

That comment raised a smile YM99 :rotfl::rotfl:
As has been said, about 6 weeks & the grants arrived, we've done 2 (1 with house involved but both below IHT limit)
Just posted a 3rd following death of FiL on 6 Feb. Everything has been wrapped up within 5 weeks purely on the strength of the death cert, often without even having to send it, just a phone call (eg SKY, BT). Only insurance company wanted sight of the Will as well. Just some outstanding bills to pay, but all income received already.
The ONLY organisation who annoyingly insist on waiting for the Grant is Santander. FiL paid off the mortgage donkey's years ago, but left £1 outstanding so his deeds would be stored, even though property was registered with Land Registry.
Unfortunately it has meant (in his case anyway) that Santander are on the deeds as an interested party (or whatever the appropriate words are), and annoyingly insist on doing nothing until probate granted. Not sure how this might delay the house sale as it's on the market subject to probate. All for £1 Santander!Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
Annoying. I suppose it's not just the £1 but the process of closing the mortgage and that remains the same whether £100k or £1 is involved. This perhaps is a good answer for the occasional repeated question that comes up in the mortgages forum to the effect of "a mate down the pub told me I should leave £100 in my mortgage so the mortgage Co will store my deeds for free is that right ?".0
